Quote:.i swear you can hear me struggle to be still and not do something more gospel or bluesSometimes, in the heart of of this struggle, magic happens, as in your rendition. I've witnessed it many times. Your obvious vocal talent allowed you to "control" the flood of riffs in your mind, and focus on intonation and expression. Like a mighty reservoir of emotion allowing a small rivulet of love to irrigate our imaginations without drowning us. Very well done. best,bc

Quote:Anybody have any idea why my T's on that song are popping so much? I hate that. Stupid TMJ anyway. I know it's an EQ problem but how do I get rid of it? It'll happen again, guaranteed.Very, very nice version of the song. You sound great and the space and restraint in the interpretation really heightens the drama. In this case less is a whole lot more!I can see why you were forwarded. Some de-essing may help with that problem, it's happening on the "esses " as well. Your voice sounds great but maybe trying a different mic next time just for comparison. The mic may have an artifically hyped high end which is enhancing the sibilance. Some engineers use two compressors in series, one set for a fast attack and release to catch transients and the other set slower for more gentle smoothing. I've never done this but I can imagine it might help in taming the "t's". It's worth a try but don't overdo the compression, your voice doesn't need to be squashed!Keep up the good work!Mazz

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

I have always found it very hard to listen to this hymn without getting a lump in my throat. I got a particularly big one this time 'round.A really good vocal rendition. I also thought the string pad at the end added a really sweet harmonic thingy.Thoroughly enjoyed listening to this.Liam

I got chills listening to this (I'm playing it for the third time). Beautiful rendition!! Reminds me of the feeling I get when I listen Sarah McLachan's "Angel". Congratulations!!I also got a forward for this listing -- an instrumental arrangement of "Rock Of Ages.

What a great voice and that's all I have to say about that.
It's a fine line between a thick soup and stew.

He added a new preamp and somehow now my voice sounds different. He likes it high end-y but it's got way too much bite for me to be comfortable. I think next time, I'll ask him to turn it off. At least for something as intimate as a song like this one. I'll also asking him about de-essing. I noticed I had to have discmakers do a lot of that on my last album so maybe it IS the ribbon mike he's using. He's proud as punch of it but hey, a mike that has teeth isn't always a good thing.

Re: Wow, this is a first for me
Thank you, everyone, very much. It's very flattering to hear this. I know how hard it is to impress other songwriters, you know how we are. I jes got lucky this time. I crashed and burned last week on a song I absolutely love, so it was nice to almost hit it this time. And musicden, got a link to your instrumental? I'd love to hear it.Thanks everyone, again. All y'all so nice.
