I like to "flip it" when needing inspiration. I take a song (or part of one), then flip it into a totally different style (e.g. Cowboy, punk, Rock, Western, swing, etc.) and just keep flipping the tinkering around until an "AHA!" moment arrives. The idea is to get into a place of playful exploration, giving the editor's mind the boot for a while . . . ,Suz

If the obstacle isn't technical stuff as to what structure to put music or lyrics into, or perhaps what hook to use, it would be likely that simply you need to observe around you and take in the sounds and ideas, and inspiration will come, with a combination of conscious thinking about what you would like to say through the song, and sleep or naps or daily activities that bring out the subconscious processing of the problem of writing the song. There's a reason people sing in the shower, it's mundane environment that is without conscious thought that brings out the subconscious mind to work.
"Why fly?" Some ask this question, but Aertherials are those that ask "Why not fly?" Check out The Aertherials messageboard linked in my profile.
