Writing a good bio... any advice?

Post by darceyard » Tue Dec 09, 2014 10:00 pm

Hi all,
So, I'm new to Taxi, and have only recently gotten back into songwriting after over ten years hiatus.

Is there a trick to writing a good bio? Particular language, or key words that people look for, or words/phrasing to avoid?

I'm at a bit of a loss so would really appreciate any advice, tips, ideas, or crackingly good examples.

Cheers guys

Absolutely, writing a Bio can be as easy and as complicated as you want. Remember that a Bio can be a marketing tool, and marketing is a subject you can spend years studying at the university. A Bio is a good thing to prioritize and give some thought for sure. In public space, you basically are what you show, so if you are a writer, a poor bio basically states that you are a slouch at it :D

Here's a few kick-off resources from the Taxi community and others:

Thread on the subject:

A nice template (also linked to in the thread):

And one from Dan Kimpel on the Taxi site:

3 "must reads" from CD Baby (+a free PR guide):

Hope it's helpful for you. Others may chime in with more..

Thanks guys! Those will keep me busy for a while anyway.

Now I suppose I should get cracking on being more interesting. ;)
