X-Tempo Pok
Anyone come across and tried the the X-tempo Pok? A wireless remote foot controller, that allows you to control a DAW from another room.Sure would solve my problem of setting a count in, then rushing to the other room and getting set up in time for the cue.Like to hear if it's any good before forking out £250 / $500.
I put the kettle on, it didn't suit me.

Re: X-Tempo Pok
Have you looked into wireless keyboards, or a USB keyboard with some extensions, so you can at least trigger your program when you're ready? Is it a long distance from the computer to your axe or whatever? Can't say for certain if this is a surefire solution, but ya' might wanna' look into it.http://www.nextag.com/microsoft-wireles ... -htmlI-468

If you need completely hands-off wireless control, this POK seems to be the only game in town. The Frontier Tranzport has a footswitch input and a display and I think it's less expensive if you don't need a whole set of footswitches:http://www.frontierdesign.com/Products/TranzPortMore toys!!Mazz

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

Re: X-Tempo Pok
The free mag that comes out with the Taxi membership (sorry...just got my first...can't remember? "Recording" or something along that line?) had a short article on a small studio for single players...it had some remote foot controller for this exact purpose. If it's different than you listed here Dave, I'll beam you more details tonight when I get home.Dave, if it's noise from your computer that forces you out of the room, building an isolation enclosure for the computer may be cheaper. If it's room acoustics that makes you re-locate (or space to do your "Townsend"), then a coffin for your computer isn't going to solve that either....I'll PM you when I find the article. It does look interesting though! You can never have too little floor space.P.S. One last resort: A longer count in....I had 8 barres blank on many of my first songs for a while. I did a midi count, and changed the click to a clap when it was down to the final 4 beats (my friend Mark, who just joined Taxi too, taught me that one).
Earplugs may be required for anyone over the age of cool.

Re: X-Tempo Pok
Thanks all,Ibanez: Yes I do have two wireless keyboards; one on my dawand another on my workstation.I just tried the one on the daw in the other room, but it didn'work.Tried the other one and couldnt believe it actually worked!I just tested it by preesing the start Windows key, and there was the menuon the screen. It never occured that the signal would be strong enough to reach.I use a 20 metre cable to rig the mic in the room, which is across a corridor, so some way!So it's keyboard swap around time. Cheers mate.Mazz: It is purely just to start the recording at a time I choose,so nothing elaboratate needed. I'll look into the tranzport.Meanwhile the keyboard will do, at least until my birthday!Devin: Yes, it was that Recording magazine I saw the gadget in.It is down to computer and also road noise. The other room is so far away, hardly any sound gets through. It's a big room too 30 x 20 foot, so good acoustics.Yes it would make a good studio, but it is also used for other thingsat present. Thanks all.Glad I posted!

Just tryin' ta' think of a way of doin' somethin' without havin' ta' run to the bank, or pull out the checkbook or credit cards. I'm all about savin' money until I don't have a choice. If I got some choices, I'll try an exhaust those first. I understand exactly what you need ta' do, as I do the same thing (I'm alot closer to my key'brd). Seemed like the easier/less expensive way ta' go. Just my .02.I-468

sweet, yeah, I remember one of the coolest (note i just said coolest, not effective) set ups i saw, my friend had one of those old school flight stick joypads tuned into a bunch of hotkeys and functions, and had the accellerators and pivots set to the song scrolls and a left and right, wasnt the most feasible thing, but it was fun to use in the booth, and gave you a sense of....well somethin
in the time of trumpets and guitars, there was an oboe

Better than just on/off.At £110 / $220 (free delivery) it'll make a nice "gift" from someonein the family.Keyboard will do, until I've convinced one of them it's "essential". Cheers,Dave.

Re: X-Tempo Pok
I use a program called ANYPLACE CONTROL. You'll need a laptop and a network connection to your computer (wired or wireless). The program runs on both machines as a sort of master/slave relationship and allows you to control your DAW from the laptop. Very cheap program. Only issue is you need to have a laptop as well as your DAW.I get full control over my DAW from anywhere in my hoose (that's Scottish for house ;-)works great.doug s.ps get a quiet laptop
