XTC lovers please don't hate me! "Mayor of Simpleton"

Post by cassmcentee » Tue Apr 22, 2014 12:31 am

Okay, here we go...
I have spent a week on three versions of this XTC song
I'll share the one I'm singing on (it's slower) when I find myself in a drunken stupor...
Until then I will share this instrumental version I'm still working on.
...fully knowing that I still have a long way to go to get all the instruments to pop out at the right times
Working on midi skills...

...if you are brave...

:D Cool! :D

It sounded familiar.... so I went to youtube, ah yes. 90's Adult Rock... whoops, charted in '89.

so you've got a vocal for this orchestral version??? (oh, just re-read... your vocal is on a different version)
anyway, sounds like it's coming along nicely. do you have a client in mind?

Thanks for listening Russell!!!
I've been meaning to learn this song for a long time...
Decided this was the week to do so
Was thinking that there should be a 80's 90's listing somewhere in the future...
So why not learn the song and track it at the same time!
Can't hurt...

Hey Cass - I always liked that one too!
Working on the midi orchestra chops eh? You are braver than I sir, that stuff seems like a lot of work...
Nice version!
Come on, now you HAVE to post the vocal version!
Cheers! -Rob

Right Rob?! Such a great song...
Yup, man it takes time... today I need to break up my stacatto vs pizza-catto into seperate tracks so I can get enough volume

Hello dear Robert Cass,

As always, I shall read the Comments of the others Members, after I post my own Comment.

So here are fresh ears for : "Mayor of Simpleton" ;)

Woah ! It is Instrumental even Orchestral ! And with brilliant Musical ideas, ... I have Goose Bumps, it is SO good.
Would work on the Reverb : just not necessary.
Otherwise, it is loud and clear.
I see this for a Family Sitcom or a new favourite TV Series. Just too long for a TV Show introduction, but it has the Flavour. Would love to open my TV for my favourite Program with THIS Music coming on. :) Oh I see, yes, Music for a Political Debate TV Program.
The Key is Optimistic and Positive, nicely assertive and confident. So glad that you chose this Key.
With many delightful Changes, all nicely flowed into one another.

Well done, dear Robert Cass. I am impressed.

Yes, it is just the Reverb, the Pitch some how, or the Tonality. Otherwise, Musically it is Perfect.

Robert,

XTC? hmmmm, can't say that I ever..... NOT!!!!

My second favorite band only after the Beatles! I came upon them rather late. I loved Making Plans for Nigel but never really knew who did it. At some point I wised up and made up for lost time by getting every XTC CD I could find. I spent a lot of time listening to them.

Someday I'll find this cover of Meccanik Dancing I did on a Casio keyboard in the 80's and send it to you for a chuckle.

Really nice work on Mayor of Simpleton. I wanted to hear the melody more prominent somehow. Maybe it's stereo placement of things, maybe it's reverb (washing things a bit too much), maybe it's volume adjustment of the different instruments, EQ, maybe some of all of that. But, don't get me wrong. It is a noble effort, a pleasure to hear, and pretty monumental sounding :D !

Nice to know you are a fan too.

Bob P.

A very impressive arrangement. Love all of the different layers you have working together.
