y/n return - "music" checkbox only?

Post by monteverdejon » Mon Jun 28, 2010 10:20 am

submitted to this listing:
HIP HOP, URBAN, R&B INSTRUMENTAL COMPOSERS needed by a Music Producer who has a new music library with Major distribution and already has several TAXI composers under his roof. He is currently the provider of music for a huge daytime television talk show but wants to make clear that the songs he signs to the library will focus on the other projects he is involved in and will not compete with the Composers working on the talk show. He is open to both domestic and international writers. This is an exclusive deal and you keep 100% of the writer’s share. All submissions need to be Broadcast Quality. Please submit one to three instrumentals online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than 10:00AM (PST) on Monday, June 14, 2010. TAXI #D100614UR

i submitted www.taxi.com/jonmonteverde - Be Without U, Call the Shots, Daily Floss

all tracks returned, with only the "music" box checked. (well, one had only the "lyrics" box checked, but i'll assume that was just a clicking error as the listing asks for instrumentals.) does that mean that the production is broadcast-quality and on target, but the arrangement/hooks/compositional aspect needs to be stronger?

thanks.

Jon, I'm not familiar enough to be an expert, but I thought maybe your music was more electronic in nature than hip hop, urban, and certainly r&b. I would say the last three styles are probably a slower and more soulful pace, than electronic which moves along fairly rapidly.

thanks for the reply len. i certainly do feel stronger at electronic than hip-hop and possibly might want to stay away from hiphop/r&b/urban listings until i really learn the ins and outs of those styles. however, and not to put words in your mouth, it sounds like you're telling me the tracks are stylistically off target, but in past y/n returns i've seen both "stylistically off target" and "music" checked to indicate that to me.

long story short, i can accept i'm stylistlcally off target with the pitch, but i'm not sure that's what the reviewer is telling me by checking only the "music" box.

Well you also said they checked a lyric box, so maybe they were drunk, lol!! Just kidding. I don't have a clue as to what the music box might be, are some of your sounds dated maybe, I don't know enough about these genres, and I'm not really sure what dated sounds are, to me a violin is just as current as it was a century ago, but maybe in the trendier music you have to have the latest "sound"?
