Seafoam Summer, does this hang ten?
Hey Dear peers in pursuit of placements!
Here's the skinny:
NEW LISTING -- SURF ROCK INSTRUMENTALS are needed by a fast-growing Production Music Library for placements in Film and TV. Give them MID-to-Up-Tempo Instrumentals in the stylistic ballpark of Dick Dale, The Ventures, The Tornadoes, etc. Submit tracks with a spring reverb soaked sound that echoes the style of the referenced artists. Do NOT copy or rip off the referenced artists or songs in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for feel, texture, tone, and vibe.
This company offers a buyout deal, and they've been signing lots of TAXI members and have a good track record of placements. You get paid an upfront fee for your tracks. The Music Library gets 100% EXCLUSIVE ownership of the copyright and master. You'll keep the writer's share, and get performance royalties directly from your PRO. You must own or control 100% of your Master and Copyright to submit for this pitch. Broadcast quality is needed (great home recordings are fine). Please submit one to three Instrumentals online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis - No full critiques. Submissions must be received no later than Monday, May 5, 2014.
TAXI # Y140505SR
I did this tune around the last time there was a listing like this, but never got it submitted, so don't know what a screener would think. I remixed it last night and was debating changing the drums. These are Abby Road 60's drums, went
ahead and tried some more current plugs (Studio Drummer, EZD, Steven Slate, AD) but they just totally changed the vibe, so I went back to the Abby Road ones. I think they sound pretty accurate, but I know how that goes.
So, what you guys think? Is it worth the 5'er, or should a just go with one Big Mac closer to the old pine box?
Thanks in advance for your time!

Oh yeah
When I was a teenager in a small town, we used to play pinball at a small restaurant there and play the old surf sounds over and over.
Round round get around..
You sure have the sound/drums goin. I heard a little pipe line, walk don't run etc. don't know if they had the capability of playin those final notes from 51-53 back in the day
I can definitely say I have never heard that melody line before.
The rhy guitar was spot on.
Sincerely
Paul

Sounds great to me Steve!
I wouldv'e liked a breath of something before the very first guitar note
It hits so fast...
But that's all
Nice Tune!

I think you did a great job on this. The guitar sounds were spot on. Your panning choices harken back to those days before true stereo was fully developed. I agree with Paul that the melody line was a little "different" -- but I don't think it should take you out of the running.
Drums sound good, imo, but I wonder if they possibly have a bit too much high-freq. emphasis. Just a thought.
Anyway, it's hard to imagine this not getting a forward. (Says the person who almost never gets forwarded.)
Good luck!

Steve,
There's something very unique in the mix, between the drums and the guitars. And, I like it!
Yes you could probably spend hours fine tuning it (which it sounds like you did), but it works as is.

Re: Seafoam Summer, does this hang ten?
Hello dear Steve,
I am listening to : "Seafoam Summer" before I read the Comments above.
Oh there is nice Ambiance/Atmosphere indeed. A completely accurate Tempo. And the Sound of the Guitar is spot on, and so well played. It is generous with many catching melodic phrases.
The Drum is unusual, an original Musical idea.
Aaaah, ... that is not boring ... I like it very much. Oooops, there is no end, it is not finished.
It sounds like a 60s Surf Instrumental, yes. I do not remember if the Listing asked for that. Sorry. I should go back and read it again.

Re: Seafoam Summer, does this hang ten?
Yup, diggin' it. The ending seemed a little wanky, anyway to make it sound more like a natural "band" ending? Otherwise I thought it sounded great. i think I know this library, good money maker if you get the gig!
Good luck!

Re: Seafoam Summer, does this hang ten?
Thanks everyone.....hit submit a few hours ago, so we'll see? I did a new mix with your feedback, if you'll give it a gander again, I'd appreciate it.
It's called Seafoam Summer (alt ending)
Paul, thanks man! I always look forward to your take on things, and you always are nice enough to listen...so thanks. I thought I was taking it easy on the solo this time....that's really slow for me
Thanks bud!
Cass, thanks so much for the listen and the great observation! I put a little kick and snare flam to give it some onway ramp to the stark guitar intro. I tried some other things...like a second or so of waves crashing, but it sounded too cheesy to me. Hope this works better? If you get a better idea, please post it. I have some time before the deadline to play with it.
Thanks again.
Richard, thanks for the input...appreciate it. Hey, if Michael L gives you a shout out like he did with you, you are someone I'll listen to and value advice from........thanks much. Did a very slight highs cut from the drums, probably needs more, but I wanted to let it sit for a day before I go anymore. I think the overall mix needs a slight cut too?
John, thanks for the listen and feedback! That made me feel good about the tune...so thanks! Will be sure to look for your next tune and try to repay the favor.
Catherine and Ethan, thanks for the listen and thoughts. So I did a new ending for it, not sure if it's better or not? I just redid some drum midi and added the break again at the end....what do you think? I like it better, and it made the song a few seconds longer...which it could use. Thanks for the idea!
I will swap the files over if and when you think it's better?
Thanks again everyone.....this place is the best spot on the net

Re: Seafoam Summer, does this hang ten?
Ouch, never put SFX in music for Sync. No birds, no cars, no wind, no waves. Screws with the editor who uses their own SFX.2lane wrote: I tried some other things...like a second or so of waves crashing, but it sounded too cheesy to me.
The only problem with the ending now is that it sounds like it ends in a different key than the root of the song which would cause a problem with the editor.2lane wrote:Thanks everyone.....hit submit a few hours ago, so we'll see?
