I don't know what the prices are today, but when I wrote that post on Aug. 4, the price from Portland to LAX had just dropped around $80. You might want to sign up with Expedia or some other site that sends you price alerts when good deals become available.Richard

People from the forum who go to the rally are "dots". Two years ago, folks from the forum decided to put dots on our rally badges so others from the forum could find us easily. So the name stuck. If you come to the rally, put a dot (or 2) on your badge.I just booked my flights! So it's official that I am attending. I had to wait for all my frequent flier points to be credited.See many of you in November! CaseyP.S. You might recognize some forum friends in these pics from last year's rally: http://www.taxi.com/rally/rally2008_4nl ... 000025&kw=

Hey kids! Well, while checking out flights and hotels (missed the deal for the hotel, erg! So now I've lost the link!:p), I pondered the whole Rally thing. So, okay, other than the unreal fun it would be to hang with so many pals from here, and already having most of my tunes signed, I'm trying to figure out what I'd be doing going. I would completely love to hang with all y'all but funds are tight. I could probably swing the airfare but not the hotel (or maybe vice versa) but clearly, I'd have to have some business angle to make it worth what I'd have to cut out elsewhere in my every day budget.Thoughts? Most of the Rally vets know me so all y'all know I would kill ta see ya so this is in no way a reflection on that at all....jes thinking about the business part of it.

Personally, I don't think anyone can make that choice for you. It's a fun, informative event. But it's likely not going to make or break your career. It's an experience that I wouldn't miss, but I have to save all year to make it. And, on top of the usual expenses, I have to pay the exchange on the US dollar. So it's not cheap. My first Rally was very overwhelming, all the people and all the activities - there's so much going on at any one time and there is absolutely no way you can do it all cause you can only be in one place at one time. Sometimes I question the expense but then I know I just can't miss the opportunity to spend 3 days immersed in the world of music with my friends.

I agree with Vikki. The rally is a terrific, fun, and very informative (music stuff) event. Most likely your attendance would not make or break your career, although you never know who you might meet and what it could mean. You can't go expecting that deals will come from it though there are other posts here about people who made deals as a result of the rally. The fact that most of your songs are signed isn't completely an issue. Sometimes it's not about the music on the CD in your hand, but about what you could send someone in follow-up. In fact, giving out CD's at the rally doesn't usually do much. Getting to know someone and following up with an email works much better. So, you could meet someone and learn that they are looking for x, y, and z and go home and work on that. For me, I go mainly to hang with my friends and soak up the highly charged atmosphere. If I make the right contact, it's a plus. I'll certainly make some effort there. One thing I observed is: For the novice to intermediate, the classes are absolute killer-- the best education on songwriting, production, and pitching out there. As people get more experienced, it leans a bit more to networking. That doesn't mean there aren't some really great classes for experienced folks. (especially on marketing, engineering, and production)... It's just that I've met novices there who are first learning how to write a song. Just about every class is gold for them. If someone is experienced and looking to transition to film/TV, there is a lot too.I love the film/TV listening panels. No matter how much you think you know, watching the panelist reactions to played tracks is a great education. I still remember specific comments from panels. Who, that went to Nashville, will ever forget things like, "What's in it for the female?". When info is presented like that, it stays ingrained on the brain.I think just plain fun should weigh into your decision too. That has a value! Also, although I knew many folks here on-line, after meeting them those friendships got even stronger. I am so much closer with some of you out there because I hung out with you at the rally. That has been great both personally and professionally. I hope you come, Nita. But only you can balance the cost and benefit for yourself. (Please, please, pretty please come!!!) Casey
