Okay guys-
Im watching a bunch of their videos/demos now b/c Im very curious.

How easy are you finding them to use?
lots of key switches or not?
how is the memory taxing?

thanks for posting;

Hey Salty,

They're about the same complexity as EWQLSO. Each patch has maybe 8-12 articulations for keyswitching. But there is no master instrument that contains all patches.
They require about the same level of programming, but sound a lot better. The violins are the weak link.

I haven't taken much notice of memory usage as I only load a few patches as needed. But thrown in with dozens of instances of Kontakt running CS2, percussion, etc, many synths, dozens of effects and so on, I haven't noticed any issues. My machine is a 2600k i7 with 32gb ram. Violins, violas and cellos are on an SSD and due to space had to put the basses on a HDD. Takes a little longer to load but runs smoothly. I've forgotten if they stream or load into memory. You might find that info on the 8Dio site.

You'll find a lot info and discussion about the series here - http://www.vi-control.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=24446

Thanks Rob-
Would love some updates as you use em more; Ive soured a bit on EastWest b/c of all the articulations and memory issues.
Im a bit too simple-minded for it.

I do like the sound a bunch of these though.

I posted this on Facebook as well, so sorry for the possible repetition, but I thought it might be of interest on this thread.

I recently got the 8DIO Adagio cellos, violas, and violins, and I decided to re-orchestrate a fairly recent piece I'd written for strings and harp (and 1 measure w. celeste). I found the cellos and violas to be wonderful, and as has been mentioned, the violins are not quite up to par yet. In fact, I found them just about unusable, other than some of the solo violin patches. So for this piece, I used 8DIO violas, cellos, and solo violin, and EW Platinum basses and violins, and HS violins.

The piece is called 'Roses in Rain.'

I hope the 8DIO violins get a much needed update soon!

Richard

That's lovely work, Richard. The violas really do sing through.
