8Dio Adagio strings - ** 13/5/13 added bass demos

Post by Cruciform » Thu Apr 11, 2013 11:45 pm

With the upcoming release of the basses, the full bundle is now available for what I think is an extremely competitive price. I can't really afford it, but I don't think that will stop me!

The basses sound incredible. http://8dio.com/?btp_product=adagio-bundle

First go with Adagio. I used sustained violas and cellos in the intro only. All other strings are CS2. http://soundcloud.com/cruciform/the-navigator

It will take me a little while to fit them into my workflow but it's definitely going to be worth it. Still downloading the violins and really can't wait for the basses to be released.

Hey Rob,

I have the set as well but I bought them piecemeal. The violins are the weakest IMHO, perhaps not surprising cause they were the first out of the gate and 8D was still green when it came to this brandnew concept. Still there is a lot of very nice stuff in there.
But they are most in need of a v2 upgrade.
The other sections are gorgeous, and I love how much attention 8D paid to the violas and basses, sections which are usually somewhat short changed. I don't think there are better sampled violas than 8D,and I happen to *love* violas.
It does take a little while to get used to these strings, they really use a different paradigm from what we are used to, but I find they definitely reward you for the time you spend with them. There are certain things that are possible with them that no other library can pull off. The result is you can often get away with writing sparser cues (when applicable), because there is so much expression/emotion available.
This is one of the things I really enjoy with next gen sample libraries/VIs (like these strings, Samplemodeling instruments and the like)...I no longer feel like I have to clutter up my arrangements to hide the flaws of my sample libraries/VIs...
8Dio strings are not perfect, there is definite room for improvement. But Troels and Colin have to be congratulated on their achievement and commended for truly pushing the envelope of what sampled strings can do... 8-)

Hi Matto,

I agree with everything you said. The quality rose with each release. Violas are definitely my favourite too and I'll be writing a lot more for violas & bass now rather than violins & cellos. Just got to get some electronica and percussion/sound design albums out of the way before I can sit down and really dig in. Troels has said there will be updates so I sincerely hope he brings them all up to the same level. And yes, Adagio has inspired me to eventually write some solo bass lines. 8-)

This phrase is with the Adagio Bass "ensemble legato soft slur" patch and using keyswitching. It's from a piece I'm working on currently, but just soloed out the basses to share one of their sounds. I've added a lot of reverb - http://soundcloud.com/cruciformwip/ta-bass

Here's a second demo of the basses - http://soundcloud.com/cruciformwip/adb-tm-ens-soft-slur
And same piece mixed in with live cellos - http://soundcloud.com/cruciformwip/intro-lo-strings
