Just a progress report on this controller.
Both Russell and Mojo were right (natch) about this being largely an audio issue., but mounting is important because while midi itself is not data intensive, blasting the samplers with too much midi data (because of the underneath triggering) makes everything gack.
So: anybody who might be interested in this very affordable ($120) percussion and drum controller, for hands or sticks:
1.) Mount it on either a 7/8" post on a drum stand (bracket for this is included with Multipad) or use a multi clamp, and
2.) As with any audio issues, fool around with your latency settings, buffers, etc.
Once you get it set up, it really is pretty nice, especially for the price.
UPDATE: there was one other problem I didn't know about before that was contributing to the original bizarre behavior: apparently the SSD from which I was streaming Stormdrum was dying. Yes, it happens, and it's not pretty when it does. Aren't you glad you back up your drives?
