Arial Publicity - Social Networking class
Okay - so I remember last year going to this class and feeling like I had a pretty good grasp of my online social networking and thinking "Ok, I'm about 65% there." And learning a bunch of stuff that I had never heard of and over the course of the year - new things pop up and I'm doing new things and was excited that this class was coming because I knew I was going to learn new techniques. So this year - I go to the class and I'm right there thinking "I'm doing a lot of stuff right, I wonder what I'm missing." Turns out so much stuff has improved, changed and grown since last year. I learned so much and how to manage what I have and continue growing it.I loved this class!! Ariel has so much good stuff - I hope she comes back next year too!Two things to publicly bitch about it:1) Both last year and this year there was not even close to enough seats for everyone - wish it was in a bigger room. A room with a projector that she can show the sites and examples on screen.2) The recording class or whatever next door made it really difficult to hear her. The two rooms were separated by one of those "air walls" that slides back and forth.

Thanks for the post, Bob. Any summaries or notes you can share with us?Also, if you forward the two items at the end to TAXI (and label them as "areas for improvement" ), I'll bet TAXI will at least consider ways to improve both situations. Thanks again.Jonathan

Re: Arial Publicity - Social Networking class
This was, for me, one of the most informative sessions as I was wanting to learn more about marketing and PR. Arial is great. Like you Bob, I thought I had it all dialed in but I learned there is so much more. I had no idea how Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, my own Web site and newsletters could be linked and made to work together to be a cohesive PR/Marketing engine. It was a real eye-opener for me. I bought her book, Music Success In Nine Weeks ( musicsuccessinnineweeks.com ), which goes into great detail of the great info that she covered in the session.

Yeah, the lack of sound isolation was annoying, but it was a great class. Talk about feeling overwhelmed by what I'm not doing!

Bottom line: create value first, then ask for money. If I like you, I'm more likely to go to your show and buy your cd.Fantastic class. Buy the book!Music Success In Nine Weeksmazz

yes, Ariel is definitely one of my faves. i confirm that the book has tons of useful info. a couple new things i learned about were how to use "hashtags" (hadn't heard of that one yet!), and "tweetlater" for some of those promotional tidbits you want to post at strategic times

Re: Arial Publicity - Social Networking class
Sounds like we were all in that class together on Saturday! Man that was one of the top 3 panels for me at the whole rally. I took some serious notes, if you guys remember me, I was the one harassing her saying that I am a serious piano player and what should I do about maintaining that dual presence as a company and as a person. I will post some notes shortly.
