Nomi,I'm jumping in here late, but if your system is locking when more than one session is on the drive, it sounds like your PT preferences may be set to "use all available space" for record disk allocation. Try changing it to something like 10 minutes, unless you are doing an extremely long session, and then adjust accordingly.Might not be the issue, but worth a shot.Aub

Thanks everyone for the input (and thanks for thanking me )Funny thing though, I'm not actually a beginner, just a beginner on having ProTools in my studio. I started recording 24 years ago!!!! There just always seems to be one more hurdle. (I remember the days of splicing 1/2 inch reel-to-reel with a razor blade and taping it back together, no mistakes allowed. Equipment behaving badly... worse than my teenager!!!!! But I'll get through it. I'll systematically go through your advice and figure out what works. I'll keep you posted.Stay cool!!!!!!!!!!

Let me rephrase my earlier comment about you having less experience than some of us...how about, you have less experience being a techy geek than some of us? Andre

I've been working through the advice you guys gave me. I should read the manual from front to back. But haven't had time, what with daylight savings and all I've been using your suggestions to guide me to the right chapters, thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unfortunately, the manual was written by people like Andreh, Teresa, etc... techies with no sensitivity to the tech-challenged. This is a human rights violation! How am I supposed to know what a DSP is when I'm not even sure the difference between CPU and RAM? Anyway... the problem I'm having is definitely related to resource use. Setting up Aux tracks for send-return FX processing has helped a lot (thanks Andreh). But I can't figure out how to make plug-ins inactive. The manual says for Windows I need to press Control-Start-click. There's nothing on my keyboard that says Start. There's a Window icon that opens the Start menu. But when I try pressing that with Ctrl and clicking, it doesn't work to inactivate the plug-in. There's no instructions in the manual for an alternate way of doing it. A little help from you Pro Tools whiz kids???????????? Pleeeese??????? I know I ask too much and too often but thanks for mentoring!!!! Nomi

Nomi, try the key to the right of the control (ctrl) key...usually has little "windows" icon. If you press that key by itself, it brings up the windows "start" menu, so I would assume it's called the "start" key (as you can see I'm not THAT computer savvy myself , it's just a guess that seems to make sense). So if you held down the control key plus that key simultaneously and then clicked on the plugin (or wherever they're telling you to click), that might do it.

Since 7.1 (I think), you can right click on a plug and that brings up a selection to deactivate it.Control-Start-Click deactivates tracks. Aub

Matt, I tried that (see post above) but no luck.Aub, I will try that. I have PT 7.1.I'm surprised there isn't a menu option in addition to the keyboard shortcut. Thanks for the input.
