I'll fix it, I'm an expert as you can see by how well I answer all the questions on this thread... PS- But seriously, best of luck in solving your issues!!!LOL! I liked the way you phrased that. How did guess that I have "issues"? I guess it's pretty obvious.

Quote:I went in to the audio clock and it is set to be controlled by the Digi002 like I expected. But I can't find the audio clock on my midi controller or software. So... Rice Crispies again!!!! Any suggestions? What midi controller do you have? Look under Sync Settings if you have that.

Re: Building a studio computer
I'm using a midi controller called an MK1 that is very stripped down, no sync settings. It doesn't have any onboard sounds or editing capabilities.I stumbled on something that has helped some. The undo function was set to the maximum of 32. I realized it was 32 for each song which isn't necessary. So I changed it to 10 and have noticed a difference. There's probably a number of small things I can do to streamline the recording drive. Trial and error will get me there but advice is always welcome!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Building a studio computer
I set up the MPC controller and it's still popping when I record. So it's not my keys or a cable. It's the worst when I'm recording percussion. I suspect there is an easy fix for this (like there was for streaming the samples) but what is it?I guess I'll have to resort to calling tech support. To keep it all in perspective, the problems I'm having are fairly minor. I'm really enjoying ProTools compared to my previous studio set ups. It's like comparing a wooden club to a magic wand!I'll just repeat myself and say thanks to everyone who has given advice setting up the new system.

Heph,I'll sure try that. I'm often on the Digi forum but couldn't find what I was looking for. I have had error messages recommending I change the buffer size. But since I didn't know what that meant, I never did it. I'll let you know how it goes (fingers crossed!!!). Thanks.Nomi

Re: Building a studio computer
Nomi, I get crackle-pop syndrome on my d8b system when the clock speeds between the mixer and the recording decks aren't matched. Although I'm running digital too, it's a much different system than yours, but the symptoms are identical. I'd suggest investigating that issue further.

Re: Building a studio computer
I'm trying to maximize my system by only having one song on the recording drive at a time.Do I have to do anything to transfer the song from the backup drive to the recording drive? Or will it automatically record on the recording drive even if the song is saved on a different drive?A related question: After saving the session in the back up drive, I delete the song from the recording drive folder. Is this OK or is there a better way to do this? Thanks thanks thanks again and again and againNomi

Quote:I'm trying to maximize my system by only having one song on the recording drive at a time.Nomi, This is going way overboard. As long as you defrag your audio drive every few days, it shouldn't matter if there are several, or even many, songs on your recording drive (assuming you have at least several hundred megabytes of free space left on it).Quote:Do I have to do anything to transfer the song from the backup drive to the recording drive? Or will it automatically record on the recording drive even if the song is saved on a different drive? If you still want to transfer songs around like this, you should "Save as Copy" to a new location from the Pro Tools file menu...that's the only way all the audio, fades, video, etc. will be saved in addition to the session file. There's an option for each session where you can determine what drive the audio for each session is saved to [I can't remember off-hand where this option is...search for "Drive Allocation" in your help file], so make sure this is set properly. Things can get really messy if you start changing this around without paying close attention to where you're recording. Quote:A related question: After saving the session in the back up drive, I delete the song from the recording drive folder. Is this OK or is there a better way to do this?DO NOT delete the original song unless you're ABSOLUTELY sure you've copied it in its entirety to a new location and that you've set your drive allocation for the corresponding sessions appropriately.HTH,Andre

Re: Building a studio computer
Andreh,Thanks for the answer. I guess I wasn't too clear in asking. I already know how to Save Copy In, that's how I've been saving sessions to an external drive. The reason I want to keep my recording drive sparse is because I am using so many tracks and plug-ins and work on so many songs at once, it all starts slowing down. Sometimes it even crashes, the screen goes white and then it won't close until I force it.I posted on another thread about saving but it's easier to keep all my tech woes on one page so here's a copy:"I got an external hard drive, which is working fine for backups. I'm having trouble burning to a CD or DVD though. I can burn a regular audio file (like the mix down of a song) but I can't burn a session with all the separate tracks and effects settings.I looked in the Pro Tools manual and got more confused, what with all the Bounce-To-Disk, Import/Export-Audio, Import/Export Midi, Save-Copy-As, etc.I tried to export directly to the CD but it says: Error, can't export to unmapped network drive. I tried to drag and drop the folder to the CDR but it won't work. When I bounce to disk and then try to burn a CD, it says the files aren't recognized.Do I need something other than Nero? Thanks."Nomi
