This is so incomprehensibly foreign to me I can't even begin to fathom a response.

I'm interested in following a CTWF experiment.

On the generated rap - sounds fake but direction I got is it sounded like how K-pop or J-pop would approach rap for a cartoon.

Which could be great market

If you mostly produce vocals+guitar, I fully understand that perspective. If you produce Trap, EDM, Dramedy, Orchestral Hybrid, everything comes out of a box (DAW) anyway. Now the box can do a little bit more (AI). Not such a big deal, really. It just needs proper established rules, so we can work with it.

Interesting! And I would not be surprised if AI songs first became a more established thing in Asia, as compared to Europe and the Americas.

Yes and if you use components out of the box without significant editing, chances of a lawsuit are real. Libraries and end uses are increasingly concerned about this and anything/everything that could put them in legal jeopardy. Digital signature recognition picks up a lot of these similarities.

I assume you are only talking about the voice and not the rap words being AI generated because the subject of AI generated lyrics is another explosive minefield.

As I mentioned earlier, using the AI voice to create a guide track for a co-writer rapper would be the way to go. Write a great rap song/track and finding a singer for the co-write would be easy IMO. It's the great song that is key to everything-- don't put the cart before the horse.

I didn't want to respond again on this thread because TBH, re-hashing this subject is getting very old. (It's getting quite the bad rap around here. )

Best,
:D Casey

Hey Casey, welcome back on my little controversial thread - even if you are in danger of getting bad rap...

With out-of-the-box I meant that all instruments are virtual - no one sits there and created their subkick with a huge mammoth rawhide spanned over an ancient hollow tree trunk. I did not mean pre-made loops, to be clear. But: No one hires the Regensburger Domspatzen if they need a little section of boy choir around the Xmas listings. No, it's a VI that gets fed some programmed MIDI. And the reverb on it might use a very intelligent (AI?!) algorithm. So, really, how far have we been all these years from AI vocals? Not much IMO.

It is an interesting one. As suggested on my other thread, I think all rights should lie with the person who prompted the AI with the lyrics. AI services need to account for that in their fee structure. The flip side is of course that the prompters are responsible for the lyrics, too.

It's there, it won't go away - so I think it is an important discussion at this time.

Recently, I read that 38 Million of the tracks uploaded to Spotify never had a single stream throughout the whole of 2022. I can imagine that number increasing rapidly for future years, so I hope Spotify campaign against the commercial use of AI, even if its just to save some of their server space :).
A quick search gave me this:

As of 13 May 2023, Spotify has over 100 million tracks and over 5 million podcasts titles, making it the world's most popular audio streaming subscription service with 515 million users, including 210 million subscribers in over 180 markets. According to music streaming data:
  • over 100,000 songs are uploaded daily, which is the biggest milestone yet for the world of streaming.
  • When you take into account direct-upload sites like SoundCloud, the universe of music could well exceed 100,000 tracks a day.
  • In April 2019, the daily number per Spotify was just roughly 40,000.
  • There are more than 4 billion user-curated playlists on Spotify.
How does an artist get discovered with that much noise? Talent is probably the least important factor these days.

The positive way of looking at this is that millions of people enjoy making music and billions enjoy listening to it.

Even the weirdest stuff sometimes gets 8,000 spins. Not 8,001 or 7,999, no - exactly 8,000.
