Classical Instrumentals - one forward, one return

Post by mer » Tue Apr 29, 2008 12:26 pm

Hey, my first forward! I'm excited! And I had decided not to submit anything because I didn't have any "classical" pieces ready to go. But these two pieces have live strings: 2 violins (one is me) and cello, with added bass on Kenny's Entrance. So it is "classical" instrumentation. After reading bunches of posts about interpreting the listings, I decided to go ahead and submit. So a big thanks to everyone here! This is pretty interesting since one got forwarded, and one got returned.CLASSICAL INSTRUMENTALS are wanted by a well-established Music Supervisor for a major network TV series. The plot of this series revolves around a lawyer who is forced to take care of one of New York City's wealthiest families. The instrumentation should sound very sophisticated and authentic... expensive! Tempos are open, but you might want to consider what could be playing in the background at an elite, high society cocktail party. This is a broadcast quality listing, so be sure the recording sounds excellent! Performances should be nothing short of stunning and absolutely professional. Please submit 2-3 songs online or per CD. If you submitted to D080304CL, you may want to submit different material for this listing. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than April 18, 2008. Thanks, Devin! I like your tag... Also would love to hear who else got forwarded, and I'd love to hear feedback on what type of listings or "a la" these pieces would work for, especially Kenny's...Thanks to TAXI!--Mer

Congrats on the forward! 2 of our 3 submissions got forwarded on this listing. It was an oboe/guitar duet. Check out www.taxi.com/thehookfactory and listen to the Scarlatti and Giuliani tracks. Poor Bach didn't make the cut. Oh well... We're happy with 2 out of 3! Cheers,Justin

Thanks all!Hey Justin, loved the oboe/guitar duets - VERY nice, very professional. I'm partial to Bach, myself, but maybe he's too serious for the high-end cocktail party gig, perhaps? --Mer

Hi MerBeautiful playing. Congrats on the forward and good luck. I've been meaning to say hello as my Mother was born in Ithaca and I've spent a lot of time there. My Grand father, Thomas McCarthy, was commissioner of police a ways back, and my Dad graduated from Cornell. I remember playing in the gorge when I was a kid and hanging out at Buttermilk falls on hot days. My Dad turned down a scholarship to Ithaca conservatory when he was a teenager and opted for a career as an engineer instead. I have a lot of fond memories of the Finger Lakes region.Mewman

Thanks! I've been in Ithaca since 1988, so cool that you've been in this place too - yes it is very special (at least to me). I love it because of all the original music being created here, not to mention the wonderful outdoor swimming in the summer. It is almost strange to encounter a cover band. Lots of inspiration for me. You know the Ithaca Conservatory is now Ithaca College, which does have a great music department... If you ever come back to visit, look me up! And I love Montreal - spent a few months there in 1975 or so as a teenager in love with my second boyfriend... lots of fond memories there!--Mer

Mer congrats! Very beautiful!! I can not think why Kenny was not forwarded! A question of likes maybe.Shame that you do not live nearby. I was an accompanying pianist for violins. We could have played together!

Hi Mer,Congratulations. I enjoyed listening to both your pieces very much. The only reason I can think that the second was not forwarded was maybe IMHO it had a more American, new world feel to it as opposed to the the first piece which felt more old world European and hence had a "more sophisticated feel".....I dunno just my $0.02......hope you get the call. Look forward to hearing more...Derek
