Hi GMD,

I also use MasterWriter - not only is it a space to write lyrics in, with help for rhymes etc, but there is part where you can register/save your lyrics/part lyrics, to prove date of writing/working on/WIP, if ever needed at a furture date.

And I also keep all email trails...

Thanks for you input. This has been an interesting subject to chew on. And because so many have joined in - it has been fun. Though I think I have decided I will not write lyrics here, ask for ideas, or seek a co-writer.

Some of you have made a good case for sharing lyrics, or Co-writing, and I respect that. I really appreciate each and every one of your thoughts and ideas. There are so many talented people here.

For what it's worth...seems to come down to one's own need to feel their "babies" as safe...especially in the case of it being some or all of your livelihood.
For collaboration-sake...being willing to take risks during the development of an idea may prove to be valuable.
I posted a plea for musical help (and me not yet a member) for a lyric...purely for fun, practice, and the opportunity to possibly build some relationship on the road to getting on board.
When I had an opportunity to pitch a song to a name group, the managment company wanted documented verification; proof that I'd registered ownership of the piece...indicating to them that I owned the right to pitch it as my own work.

To answer your question: it makes complete sense. That's why, I think, it's so important to write, write, write - then Copyright. Then when those opportunities come along - you are prepared.
