Hey everyone! My little girl is here! Her name is Espen, and she was born on Tuesday afternoon, weighing in at 8 lbs, 1 oz. She gave her Mom and Dad quite a scare at first, as doctors ran tests that pointed to the very real possibility of a serious heart defect, so she was whisked away to another hospital's NICU to undergo two more day's worth of testing. In the end, it turned out to be a false alarm (or a miracle... and I prefer to think it was a miracle), as further echo-cardiograms couldn't find a single trace of what got the doctors in such a life-or-death panic in the first place. So she was given a clean bill of health, pronounced in 100% shape, and we brought her home yesterday (Friday).

It's been a whirlwind week of emotions, from the biggest highs, to the lowest of lows, with tears of happiness, sadness, worry, and finally elation, all under the strain of getting a total of around 10 hours of sleep over the course of 5 days.

Espen's middle name is "Amari", which means "miracle from God". My girlfriend is a religious person, and I'm not. But I'm a big believer in miracles now, and I think Espen - and Mom and Dad - were being looked after by something much bigger than us.

In any event, here are a few pictures of my princess. I'm gonna post these, and then go take a nap... if I can.
