Feedback Request: Americana Instrumental
Hey Taxi Friends,
Would really appreciate constructive input on this track for the listing below: https://www.taxi.com/members/Gjdf7sdFR5 ... -my-father
I'm shooting for the Jason Isbell reference.
Thank you,
Doug
___________
A Bunch of FOLK/BLUEGRASS/AMERICANA INSTRUMENTALS are needed by a very busy British Music Library that's constantly landing tons of placements in Film, TV, and other Media.
This Library is looking for a range of Instrumentals in the general wheelhouse of the following references:
"Dog At Bay" by Nathan Salsburg
"Gloria" by The Lumineers
"Hymn" by Ethan Sherman feat. Drew Taubenfeld, Thomas Cassell, Avery Merritt, & Tim McNalley
"Feathered Indians" by Tyler Childers
"30 Turkeys" by Kid Reverie
"Dreamsicle" by Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grHKQRLq1Gw
Although some of the references have vocals, please submit Instrumentals only for this request.
Please send well-composed Folk/Bluegrass/Americana Instrumentals with engaging motifs, inviting grooves, polished production, and solid arrangements that could work well for placements in TV, Film, and other media. Your submissions can range from happy and positive to reflective and peaceful to anywhere in between. Acoustic instrumentation in the general style of the references will suit your submissions best – think acoustic guitars, drums, etc. Organic, live-recorded performances will likely work best for this request, but if you plan to use any virtual sounds or instruments, please be sure they are high-quality and indistinguishable from the real thing. We recommend crafting your pieces around a singular motif and mood, and creating a sense of forward momentum and dynamics by layering instrumentation in and out as they progress.
Your submissions should be about 2 to 3 minutes long, give or take. Non-faded, buttoned endings with good edit points are needed for this pitch. Do NOT copy the referenced example in any way shape or form. Use it only as a general guide for tempo, tone, texture, and overall vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed.

Awesome, thanks a lot Peter. I wish I played fiddle or steel guitar, would love to add more Americana flair. Appreciate the listen and positive feedback sir!

Hey Graham, thanks so much for listening and for your encouragement -- I really appreciate it! Yes, I can hear what you mean and will experiment with filling those spots in a bit. I was hoping the piano and leslie guitar would create enough interest, but don't want it to sound like mix-1! I did sneak an organ part in halfway through to give a new voice, but maybe it's not loud enough? Anyway, thanks again man!Telefunkin wrote: ↑Thu Jul 28, 2022 4:59 amHi Doug, as always with your tracks the sounds and playing are top notch, so my only comment is about tweaking the arrangement. Until the lead guitar came in I got the impression that this was a song minus the vocal. Therefore, I might be tempted to have some earlier lead guitar phrases, perhaps starting when you hit the first A. The gap without lead guitar is nice but again I'm craving something there. You did well keeping the lead guitar present but unobtrusive, so something else that does that but with a different character maybe. Perhaps some subtle slide guitar chords?
They're just my thoughts though, and as I didn't listen to the refs they might not be wholly appropriate so please take that into consideration. In the end I'm sure you'll have a great submission, so good luck with it.

I could hear this on a Mark Knopfler album. Well done!
I'm a bit confused as to the title choice. Isn't it a bit uber-specific as far as what mood the editor might be going for?

If you are willing and able to 'hire the professional', about $100 will get you there, for either of those.DouglasKnight wrote: ↑Thu Jul 28, 2022 3:28 amAwesome, thanks a lot Peter. Re: Feedback Request: Americana Instrumental
Hi Douglas,
There is a click noise at 37 sec and 1:05 again or it seems like a click noise unless it is an instrument but it stood out what ever it is, just thought I mention it just in case it is not suppose to be there.
good luck, nice track!

Thanks a lot, Alan! Really appreciate that, he's a big influence, for sure. I will revisit the title, it was taken from the "Dreamsicle" reference tune which talks about his father letting him down as a child, but definitely don't want to confuse an editor, good point. Take care, and thanks again!
