I just learned something I didn't know about the Gauge ECM-87. It's awesome.

Very interesting. I don't own either mic, but is it not true that the Gauge comes with a shockmount and the Nady does not?-- N

Thanks for the heads up, Mark! Turns out my MXL V57M sounds godawful on the dreadnought. (okay for parlor guitar, though) It's nice to have budgetary options.

I always wondered which mic this was LOL. One thing I will say is that they were very upfront about it beign a rebranded Chinese mic. It does come with a shockmount (that works pretty well) and a pop screen (that I don't like so much, but would be happy with if I didn't already have one). It also doesn't say "Nady" on it LOL.Just about all condenser mics below $300 are Chinese OEM mics.

I really want to reiterate: there is absolutely nothing wrong with this deal. It's still an excellent value. And the guys who sell it are super responsive, and absolutely guarantee their product.Don't want to sound the least bit trollish here. The reason I mention it is because many of us have been looking for exceptional bargains, and a lot of us are quite excited by this mic, so this information is something I think is good to know. That pop screen is a GOOD one, too...the steel mesh kind, not the nylon on a wire rim kind. Put it all together, it's still a bargain. But if you're trying to decide between a mic and, say, a few rounds of drinks...then the Nady might the way to go.

Well, in that case, how do these mics compare in the $150-$300 range?Rode NT1-AStudio Projects C1Blue BluebirdAKG Perception 220Shure KSM 27Audio Technica AT 2035As I may have said, I tried out Matto's Gauge ECM-87, and thought it sounded really good. I didn't hear the sibilance problem. But, geez, if you're going to buy ONE mic in this price range, there are a lot of options! I'd be willing to spend $150 more for a better microphone. Thanks in advance,Ern

Beyond my experience, sorry to say. But when I want info on any particular piece of gear, one of my favorite places to do a search (other than here) is at gearslutz.com. There's always more than a few threads devoted to any particular mic, and some great debates and specific info from a wide variety of first-hand users...many of them well-known pros, too.

hey thx for that tip Mark... I almost bought one at the Rally... was standing in line as they were packing up on the last day... decided not to... but the Nady is great price. I agree on gearslutz... great forum for gear and recording.. and the interview archives with mixers like Dave Pensado are priceless!
