Gone Country....CMT
CMT (Country Music Television) is airing a series called "Gone Country" which is hosted by John Rich of Big & Rich fame. John Rich has invited a bunch of famous musicians from outside the country music world. He is giving them an opportunity to become 'country stars.' Some of the people who are participating are Dee Snyder of "Twisted Sister" who openly told John, "I don't like country music." Dee still wants to try country though. Other people in the show are Bobby Brown, Carnie Wilson, and Julio Iglesias, Jr. I watched the first episode today, (it was a repeat) and it was a riot. In the next episode, these folks are all gonna play in a club/cafe (didn't say if it was the Bluebird) in Nashville where rowdy country music fans are very picky about their country music....this should be interesting. And for country songwriters, it might be instructional because Rich has let everyone know that breaking into the Nashville music scene will be very hard. There are about 7 or 8 people, (won't mention all their names) but the winner will receive a song contract when the show is over. The next show will air this Friday at 7 Central, 8 o'clock Eastern.

I read about this in the paper. I can't tell if this is gonna show how hard it is to get into commercial country or how narrow comm country defines its parameters, lol!!Let me know how it turns out, chits. Ought to be really interesting. I'm pretty sure lots of the folks mentioned are gonna get their fair share of "constructive" criticism!

If you're bored on Friday night, and you have CMT, you might just watch it for a chuckle. Dee Snyder is pretty rough and abrasive. Not that I'm knocking that, that's part of his rock persona, but I wonder how well that's gonna go down in Nashville. You know 'dem Southerners'....yeah, we can get riled and abrasive too, but you know we don't speak ill of anyone unless we follow our criticisms with the phrase 'bless their heart.'

I watched the 2nd installment tonight. Not much substance, just inane drama.JR keeps promising intense country industry bombardment.I don't see it. I don't think I will see it. Nashville is too laid back for this unreality show. I think JR inflates the whole thing just to promote the show and real-exploit their city-life roots. It's a stupid idea.Anything for money...

Heya, Hooks....I haven't seen you around these parts for a while. How's everything going? Yeah, I'll agree, it's sort of a silly show, but it's still fun to watch. I have to admit I'm already hooked, although I've never been a fan of reality shows.

Quote:Oh boy......I can see mushroom clouds over Nashville forming..... Bobby Brown and Dee Snyder didn't end up decking each other like I thought they would, but they came close. Contrast that with Marsha Brady (Maureen McCormick, yes she can actually sing) who's so sweet and gentle....well, she couldn't even get up to sing. This show does have some characters.
