Too many to mention, but here are a few ...

The Foo Fighters "Back and Forth" is excellent, as is "Sound City" directed by Dave Grohl.

"It Might Get Loud" featuring the Edge, Jimmy Page and Jack White.

For classic rock, let's not forget "Woodstock" the movie from 1969.

I love "Rockula" (a tip of the hat to vampires and 80s rock music), and, of course, "A Mighty Wind" (a Christopher Guest Mockumentary about Folk music). ! Of course, Rock that Uke is also very cool!

I'm going to a screening of the new Coen Bros movie Llewyn Davis tomorrow night. The music is supposed to be fantastic, T-Bone Burnett, Punch Bros, Gillian Welch, among others. It's to do with the Greenwich Village folk scene in the early 60's. I'll let you know how it is!

Ah, yes...the "mockumentary"... :D
Thanks for that, Suz.
Christopher Guest & Co. are masters of the art.
It was strange to see him in a serious role, in "A Few Good Men", on the witness stand.
Did ya know him immediately? "Hey! That's the guy from 'Spinal Tap'!" :?

Cheers.

Hi all. Just catching up on this and here's my 2 penn'arth.

The Last Waltz. A life changing film for me.

I was 14 and had been playing guitar a year. I saw some footage on the BBC of Eric Clapton and then read in Melody Maker that he was in a new film called the Last Waltz.

My mate and I went to the Odeon cinema and as soon as I heard Robbie Robertson and then Clapton, I was hooked.

In fact we were so blown away by the whole thing, that we hid ( impossible to think considering I'm the size of a truck now ) behind the seats at the back from the usherettes until the next house and watched it again.

So much talent and great songs. Blew me away. I have to watch it again. Now!
Best / Steve

ps - then of course there are:
Spinal Tap
Mighty Wind
and the BBC's "Comic Strip Presents...." team made a couple of programmes in the mid-eighties about a spoof British Heavy Metal Band called " Bad News".
Not as good as 'Tap in my view but worth a look on a winter's night.
Salut!

Indeed, Howard...Spinal Tap is the Shakespeare of mockumentaries.
Christopher Guest's character being the quintessential hybrid of Jeff Beck and Keith Richards.

Still waiting to see if eo brings back the evidence he was gonna offer up...
eo...oh...eo... (I heard that in a movie about a Wizard...) ;)

fun, eh?

Oh yeah, sorry forgot to follow up on that. Yes the Coen Bros new movie is very good, extremely well made as all their films are. It's called inside Llewellyn Davis and it's about a folk singer in the village in NYC in the early 60's, pre-Dylan. The main actor is a great guitar player and singer and the music is great, performances awesome. And yes there was an interview/question/answer session afterwards with Joel Coen, T-bone Burnett and the main actor whose name I'm blanking on right now. The hardest part of making the film was finding an actor who could perform the songs they said. Anyway, great film, two thumbs up!
