GREAT REVIEW! no forward? Reason why here!

Post by gotoddgo » Thu Jun 21, 2012 8:10 pm

NO BRIDGE!

The numbers were straight 7's and an 8 for the vocal (mine with some autotune)

Hi Todd--Stylistically the song is on the right track, however I feel that it could have more impact with a fully developed bridge section. The more complex, melodic change would create musical dimension and the lyrical component, narrative depth, both of which keep the listener engaged. Additionally it would act as a stronger set up for the final chorus, giving it more punch.

The main reason(s) you were or were not forwarded for this listing is:
The song could benefit structurally from a bridge section.

I'm trying to get the producer/cowriter to get to this bridge quickly,
But he's busy. I hope I can write it before the 3 other times i submitted
the same song are done.

The song was "You Believed In Me"

I was gonna listen and see if I could offer anything but the song is not live on your page.

Also, for what it is worth, if you have already submitted a song, they will not let you delete until all submissions have been completed. You can upload another but you can't do the 'ol switch-er-oo

Todd
Please post the listing text. Screening is done with respect to the specific listing requirements. Losts of songs get 7's, 8's, 9's., etc (sometimes even 10's!) but don't get forwarded because they aren't close enough to what the specific listing needed. Keep in mind that the "bar" is different for different listings. A listing for a major label or major Hollywood music supervisor might have a very high bar while some other film/TV music library listings may be more middle-bar.

Best,
:D Casey

The song is live on my page as far as i can tell.

But here's the music video to the song
so you can see it

and by the way, the ONLY thing critiqued was the lack of a bridge, Casey. It was also marked Style on Target.

So i figure if it had an appropriate bridge it would have been forwarded. But then again, that sounds
kinda ridiculous, too. Maybe it is really important.

Hey Todd :)
You really still need to post the text of the listing or it's impossible to really respond. It all depends on the listng.

Best,
Casey

hey Todd,

I agree with Casey that it would be better to have the description of the listing to really comment here.

That aside, going into this with a bias of listening for a missing bridge I think I may know what the screener was suggesting.

First, the song is really cool! I listened about 4-5 times and started to play along. It sounds like you are in F# if all my gear is tuned properly. That is the perfect key for this kind of song but all in all has nothing to do with my comment here.

When I played along it seemed that the chorus and verse had the same chords, or very similar chords.

I believe what the bridge comment means (and I do now agree) that when you go from verse to chorus it would have more of an impact by adding some other chords in between there to take us away from home for a bit and then when we return home there is more of an Ahhhh feeling. A release of tension or a slight unfamiliar territory. From what I can tell (and I am not always 100% on playing by ear) is that we hear the same progression in verse and chorus, even though melody changes and there is more dynamics.

Assuming we are in a 1-5-4 (or 1-5-4-5) progression throughout you could try a 2-3-4-5 as a bridge. That in an of itself may not sound all that exciting but just an example of a change up.

Hope that is of some help.

BTW I enjoyed listening! :)

my friend wrote the instrumental on a synth, I wrote the melody and lyrics, so i don't even really know what key it's in
I've learned piano by ear, but I only play certain keys well.

Well F# is considered by some the most difficult key to play in on the piano. (But that is really all subjective)

I really think that is where you are in this song cause I was all digital in my play along.
So, F# will be the "1" chord, B is the 4, C# is 5.

If you wanted to try out my bridge suggestion you would play 2,3,4,5 (G#, A#, B, C#) That would give you a little variance in the overall vibe but you will have to change up the melody a little for it to fit.

If you are interested I can send over a crude piano solo of the chords and the possible alternate so you can hear how it would sound.

Feel free to PM if I can be of any help. :)

Correction, it sounds as though you may be able to do this after all. My bad.
