If one had a stable brain, I don't thing there would be music. WE all HEAR things. Usually in the middle of the night.

Re: Guitar Tone - Who would have ever imagined?
This thread is about picks and tone so I apologize about bringing up the whole amp/effect simulation comment!!! I'm of the mindset to do the best we have with what we've got, my personal distain for almost amps via digital massacation shouldn't have seeped into this line and I withdraw my comments to save it for a new thread...

You guys kill me! Bwhahahahahah! Stan, love your new look ---
Seriously, I've always thought part of the art and FUN of recording electric guitar was the interaction of the guitar, amp, speakers, room, and microphones etc. That way, you get your own sound, not something out of a box that someone else programmed.
That said, I did a direct Strat track the other day through a Tech 21 CompTortion (just the compressor part of the pedal), and ran it through a Lexicon MX-200, using a reverb and delay. Though not a plug-in, I DID plug it in LOL! It sounded like a pedal steel guitar (almost). I've never done more than a few direct electric guitar tracks in my life, being old-school about this stuff, but it did sound great. But, once again, 'I' figured out this sound myself, which I believe is a very rewarding use of time and energy because it doesn't sound like someone else's pre-determined idea of what the sound should sound like! Make any sense?

Sorry but my modeling is nothing even close to something out of a box, at least I don't think it is. That said, I agree about the interaction argument. I like to use my amp when I'm trying to do something that I can't get through modeling, like feedback, and I like to play my amp! But the room, let me say this, its great if you are able to have a room set up for guitar, period. But the idea doesn't really work for me here at the house because the interior design of a room along with the idea of the primary use of a room for guitar is not something my wife and I easily agree on! It becomes too much hassle to change a room on a daily basis and pointless when the degree of modeling I can achieve is so very high.
