Re: Is "Good Enough" Good Enough?
Seems to me you've got the cart in front of the horse, Ott. Reba and Carrie are proven talents because they or someone close to them has made very smart choices about what they've offered to the public; the public responded by making them stars, is how I see it. Carrie's career path has been a bit different from Reba's, though; more similar to that of Patsy Cline who was discovered on the popular Major Bowes' radio show, IIRC. Artist co-writes are probably the quickest and simplest way to get a cut, I'm sure, but people won't buy what they don't like; no gettin' around that, no matter how much coke a record company shoves up a DJ's nose.

Mojo: We're getting into a chicken vs. egg discussion here: which came first? I think part of my point is that once a chicken (or goose, take your pick) has laid a golden egg, there are all sorts of roosters who want to help her lay another one. So which one of these roosters will her farmer let near her, to help her lay another golden egg? BEFORE she shows it off to an adoring public? . . . yeah, I know I'm stretching an analogy . . .Ott

Re: Is "Good Enough" Good Enough?
Johann Strauss had young women fainting at his feet when he played his Waltz music, and his Polkas. His father was also a composer of 'light' dance music and wanted his son to become a banker rather than a musician, there was no money in music.Hoffman-LaRoche was a third rate dye manufacturer in Switzerland. One of the founder's daughters married a musician who had read about synthetic vitamins and had her talk the board into buying the patents. He wanted more money to get a larger orchestra. Hoffman-LaRoche went on to become the world's largest supplier of vitamins. The musician just went on.Money does not make music, nor does music make money. Tears and frustration and long hours and a touch of the muse makes music. Then just what do you do with the music? You gots to sell it or it will just disappear.
