Their satisfaction is paramount. On another note:1. I'd say that there is not sufficient story development from V1 to V2 2. V2 has a completely rhyming scheme to V13. V2 has a completely different rhythm structure (stressed sylable count and placement) to V1Just sayin....Scott

Re: Is It Time
You obviously write to a very tight formula - I don't and wont. If you want to write 'stories' write a book Beginning - Middle - End What I am allowing the listener to do is raise their own interpretation and create their own answers questions. Its what comes out my head and I try to do as little messing as possible. I think there is too much intellectualizing on here Nick www.unit58.com

I think there is too much intellectualizing on here Nick www.unit58.comI'm just saying, I don't think you've given them enough to care yet. Needs some more specific imagery to entice the listener in enough for them to bother with putting their 'stuff' in your song. For Example:From Graceland (Paul Simon)She comes back to tell me she's gone,As if I didn't know thatAs if I didn't know my own bed,As if I'd never noticed,The way she brushed her hair from her foreheadWhen I hear this song I picture MY bed and MY wife brushing her hair - because Paul gave me some concrete images (from HIS world) that were somewhat specific - but leave me room to put MY stuff into it. He is an example of a great (IMO) writer. BTW discipline does not = formula writing and does not negate creativity (I believe it is quite the contrary).Anyway - good luckScott

I think you have to be true to your cause Scott and I am not on to slavishly follow rules though thats not to say I don't have a commercial eye on a tracks viability. If you start from the heart then thats what you should convey. If you start from the A-Z of Songwriting then thats what you finish up with too. Nick

'And my traveling companionsAre ghosts and empty socketsI'm looking at ghosts and empties' The point (destination) of the song is Graceland - where 'we both will be received' (or found). Why she left is irrelevant (in this song at least) - the loss itself is what is important 'And she said losing loveIs like a window in your heart,Everybody sees you're blown apart,Everybody sees the wind blow,'It's this loss - and feeling lost - that gives rise to the journey - and sends them 'bouncing into Graceland'.Scott
