Re: Kontakt and Pro Tools
Thanks Chuck. Yeah, Kontakt is probably the best way to go, whenever they finally get it to work with ProTools (or the other way around!). That Bela Media flute library is really great, BTW!!Good luck, Raags!!

Re: Kontakt and Pro Tools
Raggs,I'm wondering if something like this little app might help bridge the gap between Kontakt and ProTools.Kontakt can be loaded as VST. You may want to try using the VST to RTAS Adapter 2 to call Kontakt up in the VST to RTAS Adapter 2 and then call it up in ProTools via VST.I use ProTools and own Kontakt as well and have used it via RTAS and the VST to RTAS Adapter 2 (just to see if it would work). I'm using windows, but the VST to RTAS Adapter 2 claims it will work on Mac as well. The link is below.http://www.fxpansion.com/index.php?page=15GB

Re: Kontakt and Pro Tools
Wow, thanks so much Mazz, Chuck and GB! Embarrassingly, I realized over the weekend when I went back to the software (in my attempt to use Soundflower), that I have Kompakt and not Kontakt. Sheesh, somehow I'd mixed the two up in my google searches. So yeah, Kompakt is kaput it seems... Though strangely enough, it does run on my Mac Intel computer as a stand alone. I was told that it could not, but it does! After three hours, I still wasn't able to figure out the programming needed to get Soundflower to work properly with the Kompakt program, but in the meantime, I did find some success with the Wire Tap Studio, and was able to get sounds actually recorded from the Kompakt stand alone and imported into my PT session. Yay!Even with this capacity, I'm still really wanting to get something to use with Pro Tools so I can do it within the mix, rather than trying to play along separately and then adjust it in the session after an import. I'm just a little gun-shy about dropping more dough into NI and their sofware after this first experience. I'm leaning toward EWRA with their Play system, though Chuck is right, I do have Bella Media Spiritual Winds, which would be collecting dust without a Kontakt player... So that's the dilemna now.Can any of the East West RA users tell me-- are there good violins in this package? Thanks so much to you all! I'm committed to pedaling hard up These learning curves! Raags

Something else you could do instead of using soundflower or Jackpilot which is another app that lets you route audio between apps is to use the ins/outs if you have them on your interface. For instance Logic has a 4gb limit that you will hit when loading big libraries with PLAY or Kontakt and to get around it you can run Play or Kontakt in standalone, route the outs to unused ins on your interface. Then in Logic setup an audio track using the ins you assigned Kontakt/Play to.Hope that makes sense.

Re: Kontakt and Pro Tools
Thanks, supahd. The Pro Tools does not allow me to route to a stand alone, as it does not support this kind of audio. Sadly, I understand it's never be programmed to offer that, from what I hear. Logic does it though, and it's definitely a good choice as a DAW system.

Raags, maybe there's a ReWire option that can help your situation, but it's looking like Kontakt 3 is yer best bet.

Re: Kontakt and Pro Tools
Hi all,I may have missed this bit in the thread, but FWIW, Kontakt 3 runs no problem on ProTools 8 on an Intel MacPro. The one problem it did have (and a great many other processor-hungry plugs) was that it would freeze up. The whole computer would in fact! That's because PT takes all the available processors, and many plugs work through the OS and not through the host, as far as processors are concerned. If anyone is having this problem - or Raags: if you do get Kontakt 3 (well worth it) and run into this: the solution is to go into the "Playback Engine" dialogue (under "Setup") and set your "number of processors" down from 8 (or whatever) to 2. Problem solved! I've been running Omnisphere, Amplitube, T-Racks 3 and Kontakt without a hitch now - yes: I am touching wood as I type this foolhardy statement! All the best (and good to be back)David

Re: Kontakt and Pro Tools
Hey mojobone-- Thanks for the input. Yeah, Kontakt 3 just might be a good idea. For now, I've decided to go with EW Play system to at least get a few of their software programs going in my studio. Maybe when the holidays sales hit later this year, I'll make a jump for Kontakt and put my Bella Flutes to use too! Hi, David-- welcome back-- and good to read your post. Thanks! So you're using PT8 on a Mac Intel Pro with Kontakt? I was told (by NI) I might need to wait for the 3.5 version to come out, as it would be PT8 and Intel Mac compatible. So I had nearly given up on that scenario. I'm glad to hear you're having success (even if it is knocking on wood). As for freezes, I had to reduce the playback engine to "7" to get Melodyne to work without freezing, so that makes some sense to me. You're running a load of great software, so that's good to hear. I'll put the Kontakt back on my wish list for the next round of purchases. This time around I'm going with EW software (and their new Play system). Thanks again, guys!Raags

Re: Kontakt and Pro Tools
Hola Raags,I would seriously consider knocking the processors down even further. PT doesn't really need to use more than 2, especially if you can use TDM. But non-digi plugs use the mac's processors outwith PT (as does OSX!), so giving yourself 5 or 6 to play with is a nice idea. Give it a bash! The touching wood was just not wanting to tempt fate. I've been on PT 8 since February, and have run Kontakt 3 on various projects since then, including doing audio post on a couple of films, and there have been no glitches. The biggest buggy beast I found was MachFive2 - so much so that I have binned it (there's very nice app that reads M5-2 ufs files). So go for it - it's well worth it!
