Awesome Matto! That's crazy that you weren't informed of this great placement, is that not unusual for such a high profile placement?
Congrats!

Dang, I already saw that movie, so I didn't know to watch for that! I'll have to look for it again when it comes out on cable.

But I don't get it. Shouldn't you have had some sort of sync fees or something for a placement like that? I don't see how they could have used it without your knowledge!?

Thank you everybody! :)

@ Shane, the deal I have with this particular company is a work for hire/sync buyout deal, meaning they pay me a nice production fee upfront to write the tracks, and then we split the performance royalties only. Fairly common deal with the higher end compnies that still pay production fees.

@ Marc, this company doesn't always inform the writers, particularly if it's old songs that have been in the catalog for years. I'm fine with that, I'd rather they spend their time getting more placements than telling people about them. Although obviously it's always nice to hear your music/see your name on the big screen...

Matt,

What fun it was to be following this thread on facebook as you and the rest of us learned the news thanks to Richard's posts... what a thrill! It couldn't have happened to a more deserving guy, Matt, and I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT!!! Very exciting to be up there with legends like Bradely Cooper & Robert De Niro!!! Nice to be the only "Matt Hirt" in music production. ;) WOO HOOOOOOO!!!!!!
matto wrote:After over ten years of writing production music and what must now be thousands of placements, I must confess that hearing your music in the theatre and seeing your name scroll by on the big screen is still a special thrill.
That's great to hear. Something never get old. I think you should get yourself a movie poster and hang it in your studio. That would look SO COOL (and then we could all oogle it when we visit you). Plus, it would be an inspiration to remember that a lot can happen (even after nearly 10 years) for a well-written track.

Congrats!

P.S. It's also cool that this post of yours was an even #2900. :D :D :D
