Lucky Streak

Post by DouglasKnight » Wed Aug 10, 2022 5:57 am

Hey there -

A few months ago, I considered quitting Taxi because I'd had so much rejection, but figured I would give it until the end of my (first) annual subscription and then, if things didn't turn around, I'd probably give up. So glad I didn't, because I've been on a bit of a roll lately, with 11 out of my last 12 submissions being forwarded.

I don't have any deals yet, and I know there's no guarantees that a deal will lead to placements, but I'm so glad I fought through the doubt and frustration because I now have more hope that I'm on the right track.

I really want to thank everyone on the peer to peer forum who has offered me constructive feedback because it's really pushed me to improve, and I encourage other newbies like me to hang in there, keep working, enjoy the process, keep asking for feedback and to not give up because success could be just around the next corner.

All the best,
Doug

Doug-
This is great man, we all need to hear this from time to time. Honestly I had the same outlook or plan for my first year, glad I stuck i t out as well.. definitely helped to talk to people, because we all go through this, and knowing that even the biggest in this biz have gone and still go through these 'depression' swings really helped me to keep plugging away.
It can take a little while before the forwards start to become more regular, but 11 out of the last 12 is totally awesome! Great job with that!! Once that ball starts rolling, it doesn't stop! Excited for you man, and thank you for all your help and comments as well!

Great strike rate ! A library contact surely can't be too far away. Keep it up.

Fantastic to hear, glad you remained diligent.

Just curious, was there anything that you changed (workflow, mixing, monitors, genre, etc.) that you think you can attribute to the recent success?

Hi Paulie! I had been attempting lots of different genres that were new to me, like new age, dramedy, orchestral, etc. with a few transfers, but lots of rejections, and then started focusing on listings for guitar-based music, which I'm much more comfortable with, like blues, americana, rock, etc., then I started to see more success. So, hopefully more of those listings will come up. I also got a lot of helpful feedback and tried to incorporate that as much as possible to improve my mixing and production. My next challenge is a stomp-clap rock listing, so we'll see if my luck continues!
