When compared to "Guitar Jingle", it seems like the mid frequencies were cut out to get the main guitar effect, which seems to work for the guitar "chorus", but I barely hear the guitar after the chorus and it seems like it would be louder and a nice crunchy tone if it had some mids. I hear the low end of the bass, and I hear the shhhing of the cymbals, I don't hear the punchy mids in the drums like I did in guitar jingle.

Hey supahd!Listened to both tunes. Drums sounded really "there" in Guitar Jingle. I'm listening to Stomp now, and I think maybe some more highs on the snare might bring it out a little more. See if you can get that thing to really "pop/snap". Right now it kinda' gets lost in there with everything else at times, and sounds more muffled-like to me. Might hafta' bring the kick up just a taste too, to get just a little more impact. Drums can be a major pain in the butt sometimes. I think you're a few adjustments away from callin' it a rap! Drums can indeed be a pain! What's interesting is that I A/B this against.. albeit mp3's, other heavy bands (DevilDriver. Strapping Young Lad etc) and my tune Stomp has more fullness but lacks the "sheen" that I hear on the other mixes. Course room treatment/setup yada yada all come into play but.. I guess I need to go audition these on a few more systems to get a better idea. Until I can get my room as neutral as possible anyhow.I wish there was a "make it sound good" preset I could throw on the master bus then I could just write! lolDave

Hey Dave, Very cool tune man! I dig it! Love the guitar tone you got going on in this one. One thing I noticed is that, at least in my smaller reference speakers, the mix seemed to be very much panned center. It felt like there was this big wall of heaviness directly in front of me. The hats seem to be slightly off center, which is good, but it feels like the rest of the band is fighting to occupy the space in the middle of the stereo field. How many guitars did you use on this one? Are they panned hard left and hard right? If not, give that a try and it should free up some of the sonic space.Another thing on your guitars... are you rolling off any of the low end? If not, try rolling off some of the low end, maybe around 150Hz to start. Let that bass carry the low-end frequencies. For the drums... here's a trick I just learned at the Rally courtesy of Rob Chiarelli and I absolutely will not mix my drums any other way now. It's sort of like parellel compression, but instead of a compressor, use a distortion modeler. This is how to do it in Pro Tools, but the principle applies regardless of the DAW you're in. Basically, send all of your drum tracks to a stereo aux buss then create 2 stereo aux tracks. Set the input of both tracks to be the buss that you've assigned the drums to. On the 2nd of the two tracks, put a distortion plug-in across the buss and dirty the drums up. Then mix the two tracks to taste. It's amazing how much easier the drums can cut through the mix with this trick. I used to do the parallel compression method, but not anymore.HTH,- Big Blue

Thanks for the feedback Big Blue!I have 4 tracks of guitar, they aren't hard panned though, two sets are harder panned but neither are extreme so I'll definitely try that. I am doing some lowend filtering on the guitars I'll double check what is happening there though. The bass is center and there is a bit of panning on the drums as well. I will try your recommendations and update the mix. Thanks again.Dave
