Re: My Arm Candy
Cj,Well not being a music afficianado (spelling) you're over my head. I missed middle 8's in the sixties i guess, being busy raising hell and living recklessly. My bad.You chopping wood eh?I did that for years up in the rocky mountains of New Mexico. Then it just had to stop. Too many days bringing in wet wood, iced over wood, chopping in the winter cause i was a lazy ass in the summer, had no place to store wood and keep it dry.SoooooooooooooooooooooI went to a pellet stove. What a life saver! Don't know if you have such a critter in the UK but it only costs 175 bucks for a ton of pellets (50, 40lb bags, and a ton lasts all winter long at 20 below up here day after day after day! If it wern't for 10 feet of overall snow fall i'd stay year round but it's just not possible.Looking to hear your lesson, really.Doc

My bad.ok, you don't do multiple languages, I can deal ... the brits call a bridge "the middle 8" quite frequently. don't let it throw you ...tell ya what, think simple ... a verse is A, a chorus is B ... a bridge is C ... a song might have A B A B C A A or maybe A B A B C B A B or A B C A B or any different number of combos ... a song with no bridge is A B A B A B .... a blues song can be A A A A A ... a rap song can be shit.anyway ... I get that ... Quote:I went to a pellet stove. What a life saver! I asked her why she couldn't just raise rabbits and use those pellets. she cursed at me and called me bad names. I liked it.now ... on the song ... you're quirky. americana. folky but country. I really dig the way you flow these lyrics through this melody ... it's a little bit cheesy and there's some near cliche's but all in all, you flow incredibly well and you pull off "cheesy" damn good man .... lots of color and lots of imagination on this ... to be truthful, I'm pissed - 20 years ago I wrote a line that I couldn't finish quite right ... legs up to "here" is what I ended up with and if I'd thought of legs up to her neck, I'd probably have had a hit on that hooky rocky pop thing ... damn you for not going into the future and giving me that line. bastard.anyway ... I'm not sure what else you're looking for cus you don't want me to diss the production (even tho, for what I'm guessing you're recording through and with - it's actually pretty good)I don't know doc .... this is singer/songwriter stuff but not so much from a "sell" perspective as from a live and real perspective. do you play out? cus you should. I'll bet you'd be real popular with the tavern crowds man - you're quite personable musically and you have a really cool charm that can't be bought and can't be sold. it's not just the songs but how you make them sound ... I wonder if they'd even translate well to somebody else.and if you had a wooden leg, that'd be a plus too. hey - there's no pride in rock and roll man, cut that thing off .... headline as stumpy doc ... really tho, nothing to moan about here. it's a good down home fun tune man - delivered with heart and smelling of split beer, oak fires and cigarette butts with lots of laughter and a real love of life.and how can that not work? (on a local and maybe regional level)
Gave up guilt when I left the ol' school girl uniform behind. You know, cute little skirts and knee socks, nuns and rulers and all that.

Re: My Arm Candy
Cj,I don't ever speak of my habits, past present or future, good or bad. On this side of the pond big brother is a real jerk wad. If its not bad enough that the gov. has gone to hell in a hand basket, it's taken the common man/woman with it. We are really screwed over here for the next 2 years at a minimum. They basically tossed the baby with the bath water. Maybe we'll revolt again one day and take it back.Yeah locally my "junk" as i call it plays pretty good on porches, bars, taverns, and so on. I don't understand it but i have to drink a bit before i can loosen up. Strange.Got a lot of requests by other groups to play the shit, so i tell them go ahead just don't record and sell it, my publishing company would have to be in the loop. So public stuff happens a lot in NM, CO and TX small venues.I really don't play or sing worth a fuk and have no ambition to be a rock star, never did. Had a garage band back in the 60's like everyone in Texas did but it ended by 73 and i grew up they said. What a bitch!I think i understand a bridge or middle 8 a bit better.I think i've been writing in more of a poem type structure. I wrote/write poems, childrens books and even a novel for a womans publisher called Harlequin so i may have habits that are in the way of my lyrics. I'm re-doing several and have a Taxi member that is considering doing one/some demo(s) and may even end up sending some of the stuff to a blues listing instead of CW. The person said i might fit better on some blues listings with my tunes. We'll see. i'll post what comes out and ask for another ear on it.Gotta go back and be LAZY again! lolThanks really, it helps to get prof. feedback from you and others to help understand.Doc
