Well, we called the cops again last night. Why!? About 10 P.M., my wife and I were winding down, and OUR GARAGE DOOR OPENED! We had just put a keypad on the outside a few days ago, and our wacko neighbor cracked the code somehow. Now, that's bad enough, but we let our cats out in the garage at night, and our new little one was halfway up the street. I ran out and grabbed her, while my wife called the police. This is just so stressful. It's like being at war for 1 1/2 years (almost --- sorry to our servicemen and women). But the adrenaline ups and downs that come with knowing at any moment we could come under attack are killing us.Any support would be appreciated. Thanks in advance,Ern

Hey Ern, it sounds just awful. I know you don't probably want to hear this... but it sounds to me that for your sanity you need to find another place to live. I know that would make it feel like he's "won", but sometimes it's just not worth it, ya know? I'm worried about you & your family. I mean, we don't always get along with our neighbours but this invasion of your space and constant harrassment isn't healthy. Your home should be a safe place for you & the missus to relax and be, not a place you need to be on guard every minute. Anyway I'm just blathering here, but I hope things get better, and soon. luvVikki

The law doesn't always make sense but it seems that "cracking" the code on your garage and opening the door is a criminal offense. What's the difference between that and "picking" the lock on your front door and opening it? How is the restraining order coming along? There HAS to be a legal resolution for this, something that keeps you there and him somewhere else. I hope the cops aren't taking the position "We can't arrest him until he does something".

If he works, turn up at his place of work and just hang around and make sure he knows you are there.Meanwhile, doggy do do through his mailbox and a nail through a piece of wood so it pierces his tire as he drives over it.You have to be creative ern,and a little crazy.

Ern,Johnny's advice is not necessarily bad but it's a calculated risk. What if it turns out that this guy is unhinged and your actions knock him over the edge? I've dealt with pain the ass neighbours and done the hardline thing but if I were in your particular situation, I'd move. I think the guy is just not right in the head and that could very suddenly manifest itself in a sudden escalation of events with unforseeable repercussions. The other thing is, it's plain to me that no matter what happens now, as long as that guy is your neighbour, your wife will never feel secure when alone in the house. That's certainly something I would never let my wife go through if I could help it.

There HAS to be a criminal remedy to this, or at the very least a civil remedy in the form of a harassment lawsuit.

Dave's right. What happened with the restraining order? I mean, obviously the guy's getting his kicks harrassing you guys. Aren't there anti-stalking laws in the States? Your wife is living in fear and can't go out into her own yard? That's harrassment, that's stalking. Do the other neightbours have a problem with him too? Do you have witnesses? Maybe you need to hire yourself a big burly bodyguard. There has to be something that can be done before this gets worse.

Ern, as a peace offering (between us, not between you and your neighbor) I'll let you borrow my crazy dog Zeek, who tries to be nice but just can't seem to manage. Ever witness a dog wagging its tail with joy while bristling and growling at the same time? Freaky.Seriously, it sounds like this guy is violating your restraining order on repeated occasions...I'd keep that video camera rolling whenever you can and give the police something concrete to go on.I sure hope you don't end up having to move.Best of luck,Andre
