I listened to the full demo with your voice on your Taxi page. Well done, IMHO. I dont know about the variance in structure you went with, not skilled or experienced enough to comment on that (bridge early format). BUT, I know the song is emotionally evocative and that's what makes a great song. Well done.

Cool, dude.

I'm glad it worked for you. It's a big investment (and risk), but you can be proud of a fine demo, and a great song to boot.

Thanks everyone for all the encouragement!

Roger- I'm glad it had heartstring pulling power for you, it did for me too when it emerged, even though these aren't my experiences. One can still feel it.
Magne Thanks for the kudos!
Interesting that you recommend the acoustic version for an artist pitch- I thought the common wisdom around here was that label folks have no imagination and want to hear things full-blown (am I getting that wrong?)
Buc- Thanks so much for your kind words- I know you are quite the country authority around here, so it means a lot.
I was totally think Darius Rucker! Got his phone number? (ha!)

Lots of comments about the structure- it just seemed to come out naturally this way, but I could easily see it going v/c/v/c/b/c. I went with a more subdued chorus because it seemed to fit the mood of resignation better, hope I'm not killing my chances with that.
Thanks a million everyone!- now to find a listing it fits!
Cheers -Rob

Hi Rob, all I can say really is wow - I can't wait to tell my friends that I heard it here first before it was signed & released & hit the top of the billboard country charts :)

I just listened to both versions, and I love them both - if I had to choose I'd err on the side of the studio one - but I'm so glad you kept your own voice, as it is just beautiful in this song.

Re: pitching to artists - I had also read in a few places here that it was beat to have a full finished production version of a song to pitch to an artist or producer - maybe this isn't so ? I'm asking because Tony records a lot of his own songs acoustic... and I had assumed before I started reading the forums, that a producer would like to hear the raw thing in order to imagine his/the artists own take on it. And then I read the forums and was told the opposite in a couple of places.

Maybe someone reading this can help clear up our confusion please ? Ta :)

Anyway, congratulations on an amazing song Rob, and good luck with it.

Thank you so much Amanda, you're too kind!
I just submitted to 2 listings, I'm crossing my fingers hard!
Maybe I'll start a thread about stripped down vs full blown demos for song/artist pitches, because
it certainly would be easier for me to submit acoustic/vocal demos!
Thanks again!- Rob

I think you certainly has it right for Taxi pitches if it's a label listening, and it's a solid assumption to work from, but publishers and artists can be different, and sometimes prefer to hear a ballad acoustically. An uptempo song most certainly needs a full band demo, but not neccesarily a country ballad. It really depends on which form that most effectively displays the song, who's listening and in what situation they listen. But remember I just add something that may apply in very few instances, maybe 2-3 out of a hundred. Somehow for this particular song, I was more moved by the acoustic version.. but I don't think you can go wrong with the band version either. It's just sounds a little more "standard", and thereby you take a risk too in terms of sounding like so much other stuff (especially in Nashville), the acoustic version was very special to my ears, and that made it stand out more..

Thanks for addressing this Magne, I think I get it.
It gives me confidence to hear you were moved by my live acoustic take.
I had just finished writing this tune when I did that, so it must have had some
fresh , 'hot off the presses" energy to it. No time for endless second guessing and re-hashing.
Thanks a lot for your time! -Rob
