Wow, I just love stories like this one. Isn't is amazing how we weave our webs around so many people, oftentimes without realizing the power of those interactions... such a blessing. Can't wait to see the movie now...Raags

Thanks Steve and Raags - it truly is a remarkable story. I've really put myself through some serious soul searching lately. When I received the sponsorship from the New York Foundation for the Arts, it was tremendously validating for me. To have such a prestigious organization help me to bring this project to fruition seemed to be the defining moment of my life. They knew that financial constraints were the only things holding me back from making this film. Since then, I've poured every once of energy, every bit of hope, my heart and my soul into making this become reality. Now, this amazing breakthrough, from such an unexpected source. It surely has to be a sign... Here's to an extraordinary 2008 for all...

Hi Von A jazz player, student, teacher and fan, I must confess I've not yet heard of your pops until coming cross this thread. I googled his name and discovered amazing info about the west coast jazz scene with your father at the root of it!! I'm thrilled to be able to give props and encouragement to you for your endeavor with the film!! Please keep me posted, I cant wait to see it. I'm from sactown and would be happy to help in any way I can if you need assistance literally with anything. Even if not to do with your father's movie, even with onoffon promotion networking whatever.onnoffon stirred my interest in combing through a few threads as a recent forum member and I'm just floored at what I've discovered!I wish you the best success this coming year! Send me a PM and I'll forward contact info to you.Peace Monty

It's like a sign that we are on track, on purpose, living what we were meant to be doing. What a beautiful blessing! I'm wishing you many, many more of these experiences ('cause you know they tend to draw more and more in once they get started!) in your life and in all that you are doing. Happy Holidays to you! I'm hoping to meet you at next year's Rally...Warmly,Raags

Woah!!!! I just got this VERY cool PM over at a jazz community BB I frequent (yes - I frequent other music communities).... anyway, this is what he wrote - check THIS out -"I just watched the Israeli film 'The Band's Visit'. One of the characters is a Chet Baker fan and at one point he says he has all of Baker's recordings 'from the Harry Babasin Octet to the last concert in 1988'.I must admit that until then I hadn't realized that Chet's first recordings were with your dad.Joe Medjuck"How cool is that?!!??!!?! What a wonderful Christmas present! One of the coolest things that Scott Willis said about my dad in a letter he wrote on my behalf was, "He (Harry) played with and recorded new artists of that time, launching the careers of many now famous jazz musicians, as well as serving as their mentor and father figure throughout those years."He did indeed, and Chet Baker was just one of many who got their starts because my dad gave them a chance...

Thank you, Chitty... it's very kind of you to say that. It seems something comes to me almost every day now regarding the documentary, the jazz museum, or ONOFFON.Yesterday, I had a great conversation with an amazing jazz guitarist, Jimmy Wyble. Another unsung hero of guitar, I first met Mr. Wyble when I was a teenager. He and Herb Ellis were doing a duo gig around town and they practiced up at my dad's office in Drum City. We're going to have lunch after the turn of the year and his 86th birthday will be on January 25th. My mom was so happy to hear we've been in touch - many of these guys were like family to us. Some used to come to our house and have dinner with our family - Ray Brown, Jimmy Rowles, John Bannister - guys you might not have heard of but all tremendously talented on their respective instruments. Thanks again Raags... I've found "The Band's Visit" at Netflix and put it on order - it still hasn't been released on DVD but when it does...

I'm a firm believer that when you start living those dreams, they begin to unfold more and more, and they just keep getting better and better. Kudos to you for living yours and sharing the inspirations! Shine on,Raags
