Re: ONOFFON
The ONOFFON SSP of the Day comes from the SoundClick BBs - W/E Music Reviews just posted an amazing review of our song, "Weekend in Montreal", and added the song to their "Best of All Genres!" station over at SoundClick - here's what they had to say -W/E Music Reviews - ONOFFONhttp://www.soundclick.com/board/viewtopic.php? ... 37Reviewed by Ryan, a.k.a. RyGuySuperflyBest of All Genres! Stationhttp://www.soundclick.com/stations/stations.cf ... 249Weekend in Montreal"What a journey this song takes you on! ESPECIALLY when it hits 3:13. Your ears are a little tired after listening to all that jazz then bam, liquid. Honestly, it's so smooth it feels like I'm listening to water flow. Beautiful! But let's start at the top, great sax runs. Still has a legato feel to it despite it's speed. Reminds me alot of Coletrain actually. But stuff like that is hard to listen to for a long time, so good job at switching the styles up right around the 1 minute mark. You know what would complete the second section? You probably do but just couldn't find a player. A clarinet would do, but a soprano sax would be even better. When I hear this I feel like I'm dancing, and it feels so romantic. But how romantic is dancing with yourself? Haha, not very. It feels like the Sax is the man, but where is his woman? Nowhere to be found, and it's a little depressing. Am I reading WAY to far into this? Maybe. But I don't think so, the people who wrote and performed this are obviously very skilled and you probably know exactly what I'm talking about! Music is ALL about the emotions, and if something feels wrong emotionally while you're listening to a track, it's a big deal. It would be a shame to not capitalize on this emotional phenomenon you're so close to creating. BAM! Jazz attack, back to the runs. The transition is a little rough, but I think that's ok because this song feels like it was written to go along with some sort of production. so the akwardness is probably intentional. again, skillful playing. And then to the most beautiful part of the whole song! Ok, here's what I see. We'll call them acts. (0:00-around :50) 1st act, 2 people caught in the hustle of life and just going through their days as they always have, not having time for themselves much less romance. (:51-2:36) 2nd act, THEY MET! Maybe walking down the street, maybe they're old friends, I don't know ok? But they meet! They exchange words, they go out that night and it's magical. It's perfect. And then right at 2:36 when they're about to kiss, BAM, life happens and one of them is torn away. (2:37-3:12) 3rd act, seperate again. Could be very similar to the first act. Just life sucks being alone. So caught up, so frustrated with themselves for letting the other get away. (I think this section should be a little bit longer if you are doing something like this.) (3:13-end) They find eachother again, they go dancing, ice skating, whatever. Doesn't matter because they're together! Man, wonderful. And the whole thing ends with a kiss. Bam. Where's my director's chair!?!! Can you see all that? Man, this is a great song and it creates so much imagery in my mind, truly wonderful. Truly! Hope you didn't mind me taking all that liscense with your song. I'm exhausted from all that traveling! Ryan"Our sincere thanks to Ryan and W/E Music Reviews for painting such a wonderful visual image for one of our tunes - makes it all worth while...

Re: ONOFFON
Today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day is from our new friend in Italy - upon receiving his very complimentary email, I thanked him for his kind words - this was his response to me -Subject: Re: Bravi!Date: Mon, 10 Jan 2005 23:41:01 +0100To: <von@onoffon.com>"Thank You, Von, for your reply! It’s nice to speak personally with a musician and listen to his thoughts about the world of music: I ever had this kind of sensation, maybe even more in the 90’s than in in the 80’s. I’m not really too old – only 36 y.o. - but I was always attracted from the music, not from the media. Here in Italy the situation is awful, I can’t listen to the radio – alway the same groups, the same kind of music. It’s not easy for the big bands of the 70s to make audience: the likes of Yes can have only 2000-3000 people... Think to other minor bands.... A wonderful exception has been the Rush 2004 concert in Milan , but was the first date ever here in Italy! And fusion artists as Allan Holdsworth, Mike Stern, John Scofield or Vital Information can go only in little places to make about 500 people... Ah, BTW, I’m NOT a musician: I have a (very?) good ear, but I can’t play guitar but I LIKE BASS GUITAR! My heroes were Chris Squire, Geddy Lee, Mark Egan (you sound sometimes like him!), Tony Levin, Jeff Berlin, Jaco and so on!Maybe sometime I can hear you here in Italy!Have a good time and best wishes to all of you again!Mauro"Once again, thank you, Mauro, for appreciating our music!

Re: ONOFFON
Today's ONOFFON SSP of the Day is a posting I just read at the R Cat Communications BB in reference to the Unsigned Music Mag article about my father - here's how it reads -"A Review for Von Babasin (ONOFFON) regarding his father Harry “The Bear” Babasin I have just listened to all three of your father’s tracks from your provided links in the International Online Music Tea Room; they’re part of a wonderful collection of your father’s life and work and something I’m sure you’ll treasure always. Thank you for the links as I thoroughly enjoyed reading the biographical information as well as the listening experience. You’re absolutely right about these tracks being a part of the beginning of a sound in jazz that I’m sure we are all familiar with. Everything that is to later become a musical revolution has to start somewhere, and should be remembered with a certain amount of respect for what it is and what it directly or indirectly became. Von you seem to be a devoted son and I’m sure that any father would be proud of your musical accomplishments and dedication to its source. In an interview with Picasso and Joni Mitchell, the host asked Picasso to do a quick sketch and sign it for him. Picasso happily obliged. When given the sketch the host said “Wow that sketch took less than a minute and will be worth a fortune one day!” Picasso frowned and replied, “A minute? That doodle took a life time.” Everything we do today has bearing on past experiences, influences, and specific events, and acknowledging those roots with a sense of respect and tribute is what Picasso implied and what Von is honoring. Someone once said that the past is a broken mirror with which one can only see parts of a once whole reflection. Occasionally, in bringing together those parts we get a glimpse of something truly wonderful. You can find information on Harry “The Bear” Babasin at: http://www.jazzinhollywood.com/harrythebear.html as well as a sample of a few tracks and an article in Unsigned Music Magazine at: http://www.unsignedmusicmag.com/cart3.htm Elley Wilson"Thanks to Elley for her passionate thoughts...

Re: ONOFFON
The ONOFFON SSP of the Day is an excellent promotional tidbit given to us by the best place on earth to get drums, Orange County Drum & Percussion. It seems they are getting ready for the NAMM show and they have designed a new flyer to give away at the show. Around the edge of said flyer, they have listed name drummers they equip along with the bands these drummers play for.Well, for this year's NAMM show, you guessed it, Dave Goode and ONOFFON are listed on the flyer, alongside people like Travis Barker of Blink 182, Jerome Dillon of Nine Inch Nails, and John Otto of Limp Bizkit. If you are attending the NAMM show this year, make sure you stop by the OCDP booth and pick up a flyer - and ask for Dave from ONOFFON and tell him you know Von... Dave's sending me a handful for the ONOFFON archives... very cool.... thanks OCDP!

Re: ONOFFON
The ONOFFON SSP of the Day is from LightningCD - a digital distribution website that has invited ONOFFON to join their ranks. Yesterday, I received an email from the CEO, who had originally found us on GarageBand, but has also come across our music on a few other sites -Subject: I Saw ONOFFON on GarageBandDate: Wed, 19 Jan 2005 16:39:24 -0800From: LightningCDTo: <von@onoffon.com>"Von,Today I discovered a new (to me) website today called Mixposure. After clicking around I found an ONOFFON interview with the esteemed Dr. Zzaj. I went back to your website and then read another interview from Unsigned magazine. Seems like the band is going strong and gaining momentum!Anyway, LightningCD is still very interested in your music. Whenever you're ready - no pressure of course.Best, Carl"I am preparing a package to send Carl and will post here once we are up and running on his site. Thanks to Carl - nice to see all the promotional work I do doesn't go unnoticed...
