The mbox2 interfaces with the computer usb. I think Mojo's advice, and making sure you are configured correctly in the Windows sound control panel and Pro Tools is most likely your solution. An OS upgrade at this point is likely to cause more problems, unless you are willing to upgrade everything, because we don't know your computer specs, and your older pro tools version and mbox would probably need updated drivers, if they are even supported at all for newer systems.mojobone wrote:You mentioned you use MIDI cables between the controller keyboard and...what? Most computers don't have MIDI ports, so you must have a MIDI interface which most likely connects to the computer via USB, but might also require a DC power supply. The interface might have digital audio, analog audio and MIDI I/O or some combination thereof. Definitely plug that in, if there's a receptacle labeled X number of Volts DC. (after verifying that the power supply's voltage and polarity match, natch) If the MIDI I/F doesn't have power, it won't pass any data to your DAW, whether it's analog, digital or MIDI. Speaking of which, is there any good reason to attach a cable to the D5's MIDI in? I can't imagine you're using any of the D5's internal sounds, cuz as it happens, I also own one, LOL.
In fact IIRC, I had a similar problem (weird random pitch and mod oscillations) with my D5 back when I was using Gigasampler, which might be the same sampling engine that runs Garritan PO. If your pitch and modulation data oscillate in time with the music, that's more likely automation data or clock data. Still, that shouldn't happen if all the different varieties of data are being routed properly.
Try this: make sure everything's appropriately connected, then power up your keyboard, MIDI I/F and audio I/F, then the computer. The computer is supposed to sense the connected plug'n'play USB devices and load the various drivers, and maybe it shouldn't matter which gets turned on first, but sometimes it just does.
You might also try setting the D5 to Local Off in what I theenk is called the System Menu; a data loop can cause that kinda pitch/mod behavior.

Good points Len. I had an m-audio project mix that windows service pack 3 couldn't see till I installed it with service pack 2 then overlaid with 3. It was a long search on the web before that solution was found. The mbox2 interfaces with the computer usb.
