Post here what you learned and what goals you have for the next year, or what goals you would like to set. Here are some of mine:

Per Chuck Schlacter's Class:

Determine how many targeted songs I would like to write this year.
Determine a realistic number of hours per song it will take me
Figure out the number of songs per month I would have to write to reach my goal
Figure out the number of hours per week I would need to spend in the studio
Schedule those hours onto a weekly calendar that considers my day job and family
DO THE WORK!!

Buy The War of Art and read (already doing as of tonight)

Other:

Buy Fett's mixing book (done!) and continue to get better at home recording

Create a TAXI hang in my local area

Learn guitar (started)

Network and collaborate with 5 new people

I think that's enough for now... YOUR TURN!!!

-Shell :D

My goal is to have more people like Michelle attend my little class at the 2013 Rally :D

Good stuff, folks. Lots of new perspective on time management and organization. I posted mine in another thread yesterday, but I'll move them here as well:
1) Start participating in the TAXI forum! (so far so good...) I've been a member for a few years, and have popped onto the forum a couple times, but haven't really been involved. I know that needs to change.
2) Get on e-mail lists, and follow twitter accounts, of several people I connected with over the weekend. Make time every day to connect with people, engage in what they do, and encourage people to engage in what I do.
3) Make a written, detailed, weekly writing/recording schedule based on due dates of listings. Update the schedule every week, and make the 1st and the 15th of every month the "beginning of the week", regardless of what day those fall on.
3a) Include scheduling time for analyzing/deconstructing "a-las" in new listings.
3b) Barring a "we need this tomorrow" type of listing that I know I can knock out in a day, stick to my written schedule. Get 'em done and move on.
4) Research wordpress, and start planning for a complete re-build on my website. (lots more details here, but I'll spare you...)
5) Actually start USING my twitter account.
6) Research Gooding, Tim Meyers, and a few others. Start writing down some things they are doing that I could do more of.

Lots more long-term stuff I got out of the rally as well, of course. This was the stuff that I felt like I could and should do right away, and develop some new habits. The big themes that stuck with me this weekend were "engagement" and "work ethic". These terms have different meanings to me after this past weekend.

U KNOW IT!!! Already done with two books of The War of ART!! Also counted the number of songs I wrote this year... you said 40 was pretty good for singer songwriter. I am at about 21 ish, finished, 10 more or so finishing up,,, did not know I was that far along..

40 is my new goal, with more songs directly targeted at listings... should take me about 8-10 hours of studio time a week. I think that is fairly doable... we shall see

Thanks Chuck!!

My goal would have to be to cultivate the relationships with the fantastic new friends I made this year! I've never felt more at home with a group of people I'd never met!

Hey folks!
These are all awesome and getting into action will certainly take you in the right direction. BUT - most of what's listed on here aren't actually goals.

I was so intrigued by this phenomenon (I've seen it before!) that I decided to write an article about it and included it in my Newsletter for November and will have a second article about it in December.

You can read the first part here  http://artists-edge.com/goals-actions-s ... s-article/

Your coach,
Debra

Thanks Debra for your blog!

A while back I asked a friend what he really wanted to do. His answer was that he really wanted to do that particular course... It was like he just wanted to "drive the car" and didn't care where he would go. But what if the car breaks down? In his case that course is way too expensive. People get frustrated this way and can't see the alternatives! He could ride a bike, take the plane, a zeppelin, etc. So I understand what you say, Debra.

But isn't the goal for "every one" on the forum the same? Making money through music. So maybe the title of the thread is misleading. Is "Post your actions after attending the Rally" a better title. I know the goal "Making money through music" is very unspecific and it should probably be a lot more specific. How much money? Music in what way? When? etc. The five year plan comes to mind, for it is, I think, filled with goals.

Well just thinking aloud. Looking forward to part 2 of your blog!

Martijn

Well the Rally was really an eye opener for me especially the
quality of the recordings I heard at some of the song sessions.

My goals are:

- Read Ralph Murphey's book on songwriting (got it at Rally, in progress)
- Read Fett's book on mixing (got it at Rally) along with two other books on mixing
- Improve my mixes
- Write targeted songs to listings, at least one to two per month
- Expand my horizons in instrumental music using keyboards
- Get a forward :)
