Quote:So, my last question on this topic (MAZZ: I PROMISE!): Has anyone out there had hands-on experience with Miroslav Philharmonik or perhaps another version of Miroslav-produced instrumental samples? The few arrangements that I've heard recently that were prepared by using Miroslav are very impressive, but this has been my only experience with Miroslav. The good thing about the Miroslav stuff is that the samples themselves are very well recorded and have a great sound to them. The bad thing is that these are very old samples that have simply been repackaged/reprogrammed in Philharmonik using the Sampletank engine (by Sonic Reality, not M. Vitous). The main difference between that library and more moderm offerings like EW Gold, VSL SE or KH Ruby (and of course Sonivox, but I'm pretty sure that's outside your price range) is that while it has a decent amount of articulations, most of these are single layer velocity samples, or maybe dual at the most. So it doesn't have nearly the depth of sampling the more modern libs offer. As a first, principal orchestral library in 2008, I would recommend against Miroslav. I would even recommend against it as a second library. After that, it certainly adds a sound of its own.matto

I bow to Matto's hands-on experience. Given that there's no perfect collection of samples that fulfills every performance requirement, the combination of sound quality, range of articulations and total package price - coupled with the overwhelmingly supportive user-based endorsements that I've read on TAXI ProBoards and elsewhere - points to the EWQLSO Gold Bundle as the kiss to build a dream on. It's high-time for me to fish - - no more bait-cutting.Thanks to all for input. Hope to be able to repay many favors in the very near future.-Alan (backtalkunlimited)

For some strange reason I happen to have them all (VSL, EWQLSO, SISC, KH, Mirsolav) so if anyone has other questions I'd be happy to answer further. This is my thing, in other words.

Have been using MOTU Symphonic Instrument, but bought the EastWest Silver package a few months ago. I like the sounds but I've been somewhat frustrated with it. With MOTU I've been used to using only one or two instances of the plugin (within Logic), using different MIDI channels to trigger separate assigned sounds within the plugin, and then assigning the mod wheel as a volume control for each sound. In EastWest I see how to have multiple sounds assigned to different MIDI channels in the plugin, but can't figure out how to handle volumes of each sound individually. Is there a way to assign the mod wheel as controller #7 (volume)?

bigdrisk,I think you'll need to to re-assign the mod wheel somehow in Logic rather than in the EW Kontakt player. I'm not familiar with Logic bit with Digital Performer, it's a MIDI plugin that can re-assign controllers on input. Very handy.Good luck,Mazz

I don't think Logic has that capability, but I'll check. It's definitely a good idea. Hadn't thought of it.

It's a long shot but maybe your keyboard can reassign the mod wheel controller. Some can.

Hadn't thought of it.I would be very surprised if Logic didn't offer something like this. It seems like such a standard feature. Also, the way EWQLSO is programmed, it is usually controller 11 (expression) which is assigned to handle "expressive" or "musical" volume moves such as crescendo/decrescendo and the like. Controller #7 is meant to be used more like a static track level control.HTH,matto

TO ALL: I'm passing the following information along in the hope that some TAXI ProBoarders might find it useful. After some extensive googling, I was able to secure a written quote for EWQLSO Gold Pro Bundle of $420, with free ground shipping, from PCAudioLabs (http://www.pcaudiolabs.com). This is the lowest price that I've been able to find anywhere for this particular software package. I requested the price-match quote by contacting the company at the following URL:http://pcaudiolabs.com/contact.asp?cat=abou&more=contA couple of hours later, I received an e-mail response from one of their Sales Representatives, Thomas Bolton, who kindly provided a firm quote number and a link to the appropriate order-webpage. The quote is valid for one month from the date of issuance. Interested parties might contact Mr. Bolton directly, c/o tom@pcaudiolabs.com; telephone (818) 986 2673 ext.102.I placed my order this morning (Monday, 1/14). After the item arrives, I plan to submit a follow-up post to this thread to let y'all know the outcome of my online ordering experience with pcaudiolabs.-Alan (backtalkunlimited)

To follow up my previous message:I ordered EWQLSO Gold Pro Bundle from pcaudiolabs.com on Monday, 1/14. This item arrived via FedEx on Thursday, 1/17. Not bad, especially when one considers that most people in their business are away from their respective offices, attending NAMM 2008!Also on Thursday I received an e-mail from Fred Rosenbloom (with pcaudiolabs.com), who kindly offered to assist me with installation of this EWQLSO bundle if I had questions. To summarize: best retail price for this package that I could find on the internet; rapid delivery; nice folks to deal with. What's not to like?-Alan (backtalkunlimited)
