Quote:I know a dyslexic who plays a right-handed guitar strung upside down .... backwards.... with the back of her left hand.... she's always fretting about her nails.....I have to keep my nails short to play...sigh...can't have pretty fingernails now.

Quote:Oops, to clarify I also play a right handed guitar even though I'm a leftie. You play it right handed, restrung for a lefty, or Elizabeth Cotton style?

I thought about getting my guitar restrung because of course, my left hand is so dominant, and picking wise, I'd have the advantage there, but I've already learned this way...and my right hand is getting stronger anyway. I'm not sure I could play any better even if I had my guitar restrung. I've only been playing nine months or so.

Re: Left handed and right handed songwriters
I guess you will also have to define what you mean by a load of "malarky". I am not sure I have seen a load of malarky, suppose one would know it when they see it. I think the closest I have come would be a load of dirty laundry but according to Don Henlywe WANT dirty laundry. I dont know what he has been smoking but I do not want dirty laundry. So back to the original question, ah, what was it again?

Elizabeth Cotton was a lefty who played the guitar left handed without restringing--just flipped it over. Listen to her play for some fascinating licks, especially since she fingerpicked wonderfully. There are all sorts of solutions, and some are more out of the box than others.

I haven't listened to much of her stuff...I had a friend who raved about her...he played "Washington Blues" for me once....good stuff. I find that just good old practice is helping me, no matter how I play. I've been better at practicing lately.
