I'll be rat faced".I bet he's singing that right now.LOL, Jeffe.I see Steve is just about to cross the five-hundred mark threshhold.....I would have thought he'd done that by now. I think it was either Horace or Ed that asked where the term "outlaws' came from.....I really don't know, it's a term I hear tossed around on CMT and other stations....maybe I'm watching too much television.

Waylon used it referring to himself and some others.

Anyone can do it with two elastic bands!Try to make sure the bands are transparent then people wont see you are cheating Then thank your lucky stars that you haven't heard "Leonard Nimmoy" sing "Bilbo Baggins". Yes. He did sing that. Terribly. He's gotta be an Outlaw for even trying to sing in the first place. He sang it with the care and emotion of an oil spill.

Live long and learn to sing. Both of you.

Re: Outlaw songwriters in Nashville
Harlan Howard wouldn't even get a listen in Nashville these days. Chet Atkins would probably play a few sessions, but he'd never have a chance at running RCA.An MBA on the resume and a mention of listening to country music as a child can put you in control of the songs the world will hear. It's a corporate fact.Nobody would take a chance on Johnny Cash these days. Waylon? He'd be playing for the door in Luckenbach...Sad but true, I'm afraid...

Quote:Anyone here have a list of older songwriters who probably couldn't get lots of commercial airplay these days, but writers you love? Maybe they are not necessarily outlaws, just older songwriters. Here's mine:Jimmy WebbKris KristophersonJ. D. Souther (wrote a lot for Linda Rondstadt)Johnny Cash and Waylon (both deceased of course)Willie NelsonJohn Anderson (even though he's had a lot of commercial success, he just doesn't get much airplay these days)Just a list of a few.Isn't Willie Nelson deceased also? Oh that's right he just looks that way.
