Re: Outlaw songwriters in Nashville
Quote:Hehheh! A cheatin' song! I have one... Dysfectionately dedicated to my last ex and proudly written with the help of Mr. Molson!Roadside Trash (c)2005 Ronald G BrownYou knew I crashed and burned on Lover's Lane... You knew it wellYou knew my spirit took a beatingAnd you made promises upon promises, then you broke them allWell my words for you, they do bear repeatingChorus:You're just roadside trash... Rotten, dank and coldRoadside trash... The devil's bag of goldYou're just roadside trash... Stinkin' up my worldI feel sorry for the one who finds you...Gathers you up and decides you might be worth somethin'Verse:So you took the exit ramp off Highway Love to Cheatin'svilleAbandoned me outside that townBut as I walk this shoulder, I don't mind, I get my fillBreakin’ in my boots, kickin' around...Chorus:Roadside trash... Rotten, dank and coldRoadside trash... The devil's bag of goldYou're just roadside trash... Stinkin' up my worldI feel sorry for the one who finds you...Picks you up and decides you might be worth somethin'Bridge:It's not the package, baby, it's what's inside that countsA good coat of paint just hides the rust till it bleeds outYou hid your colors well but, honey I'm not bitter...I just can't get mad at a pile of litterChorus:You're just roadside trash... Rotten, dank and coldRoadside trash... The devil's bag of goldYou're just roadside trash... Stinkin' up my worldI feel sorry for the one who finds you...Picks you up and decides you might be worth somethin'The end... Hey, this is what I'm talking about.....I really like your lyrics, Hook. Maybe you should get more exes, if it results in stuff like this. I especially like your line, "a good coat of paint just hides the rust till it bleeds out." Gotta an interesting visual on that one.Okay.....here's my song, even though I'm a 'gurl' I like to write my share of outlaw lyrics too. Mine's a prison song, based in Atmore, Alabama. It's about a guy sent to prison for a crime he didn't commit. The term "Yellow Mama" is of course, the infamous electric chair that they retired in 2003, I believe. Leaving Atmore In the Morningcopyright 2006, jchittyI landed behind prison wallsFor something I did not doThey pinned a murder on meIn the spring of '92I had a reputationI'd done some time beforeA half 'o gram in my guitar caseThey found what they were looking forBut somehow I got lucky The really killer he confessedI got my release yesterdayI'm gonna blow this place of deathChorus:Oh, I'm leaving out of Atmore in the morningWearing the mark of the wrongly accusedYes, I'm leaving out of Atmore in the morningWith any luck I'll be in Mobile by noonYour strong love helped me throughAll those talks behind the glassI swore that if I made itI'd be coming home at lastThe Yellow Mama did her talkingTo all the dead men walkingI could have been among themNow, I'll be sitting next to youOh, I'm leaving out of Atmore in the morningWearing the mark of the wrongly accusedYes, I'm leaving out of Atmore in the morningWith any luck, I'll be in Mobile by noonA man can lose his mindLeaving in an 8 by 10The thing that kept me goingWas to dance with you againI'll fly away in freedomAnd start on my new lifeAnd waltz you the chapelWhere I'll make you my sweet wifeOh, I'm leaving out of Atmore in the morningWearing the mark of the wrongly accusedYes, I'm leaving out of Atmore in the morningWith any luck, I'll be in Mobile by noonAh, by nooooon....

Nice prison tune, Chits! The emotion is extremely clear there! Almost like how the writer lives the experience... So... Like...How long were you on death row anyways?

LOL, Hook....they let me out of my deathrow cell every now and then to use the computer in the prison rec room. I can't really pin down why I write these kinds of tunes....don't have a record and I never get into trouble that much, well most of the time anyway. But writing stuff from the darkside of life always appealed to me 'coz I think there's more substance there....stories about real people and all. Or maybe I just got a 32 year man with a mullet haircut trapped inside somewhere that needs to get out.
