Quote:Quote:JamesHi!! Welcome to the forum... It was a pleasure meeting you at the rally! I thought your writing and performances were awesome at the open mic! Warmest, CaseyThanks, Casey! It was great to meet you, too. That's another thing I learned: Open Mics won't actually kill me; it just seems that way. I was really overwhelmed by the loving reception at the Open Mic and the incredible variety of songs, from "Porn Queen" to a son going off to Iraq to Markeesha and Sterling playing beautifully together with no rehearsal on one of Markeesha's songs. I wish every Open Mic night was like that.Same here regarding open mics not being death. I was signed up with Vikki and Rachel as around #8... After I saw the level of talent by the first few performers I wanted to run away. I was scared sh*tless when I played my song... Glad it's not on video... I was staring down at my guitar the whole time with this horrific look on my face... Thank God Vikki and Rachel did such a great job on the vocals... Casey

1. It's ok to make mistakes...that's how you learn. The bigger the mistake the bigger the lesson 2. Ask...ask again and ask some more... 3. Never pretend to know something when you really don't, people will respect more when you ask

New around here. Glad to see so much positive energy.Three things, aside from remembering how great good singing is.1. Be honest with yourself about your work.2. Be specific. 3. Be better prepared for the next Road Rally.

Road Rally 2007
I'm a TAXI member and appreciate the opportunity to post my views.1. The Open Mic at the Road Rally was amateur hour at best. I was never called to perform. I can't believe that the same names were called on several times, night after night, and those lucky members never showed to perform. I attended all 3 nights ready to perform, and never got a fair chance. I think the Open Mic was rigged, pay to play type thing. 2. Not one hit song was played all convention long, and hundreds of songs were played to industry experts and audience members. I HAVE HIT SONGS (read below for proof)3. In the music biz, it's all who you know as my lawyer puts it.The highlight for me was getting to shake Michael Lloyd's hand. I won several Los Angeles Music Awards (in addition to being nominated for 2007 Folk/Acousitc Male Vocal of the Year) and was extended a special invitation to attend Mike Curb's Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony this past July.... courtesy of LAMA. At the panel discussion, I found out they are biz partners and friends, which I had no clue about. If TAXI wants hit songs, check out my music. Former LAMA winners include the Black Eyed Peas, No Doubt, System of a Down, Sugar Ray, etc... and those two gentlemen named above have ties to the organization, so I'm not bullshitting you. I recorded my EP in 24 hours, if I had a budget like a record label, then I could go back into the studio and tweek certain parts to perfect the songs.www.myspace.com/robertpopaThanks,Robert
