Trust me, the number of people reading your post who will now listen to your music are VERY few.CaseyI don't know why, but I'm cracking up. Struck me funny I guess. I guess the warning would've been "I'm a TAXI member and appreciate the opportunity to post my views ." Liam's post cracked ME up!!

Quote:I'm a TAXI member and appreciate the opportunity to post my views.1. The Open Mic at the Road Rally was amateur hour at best. I was never called to perform. I can't believe that the same names were called on several times, night after night, and those lucky members never showed to perform. I attended all 3 nights ready to perform, and never got a fair chance. I think the Open Mic was rigged, pay to play type thing. 2. Not one hit song was played all convention long, and hundreds of songs were played to industry experts and audience members. I HAVE HIT SONGS (read below for proof)3. In the music biz, it's all who you know as my lawyer puts it.The highlight for me was getting to shake Michael Lloyd's hand. I won several Los Angeles Music Awards (in addition to being nominated for 2007 Folk/Acousitc Male Vocal of the Year) and was extended a special invitation to attend Mike Curb's Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony this past July.... courtesy of LAMA. At the panel discussion, I found out they are biz partners and friends, which I had no clue about. If TAXI wants hit songs, check out my music. Former LAMA winners include the Black Eyed Peas, No Doubt, System of a Down, Sugar Ray, etc... and those two gentlemen named above have ties to the organization, so I'm not bullshitting you. I recorded my EP in 24 hours, if I had a budget like a record label, then I could go back into the studio and tweek certain parts to perfect the songs.www.myspace.com/robertpopaThanks,Robert This is fascinating!! I noticed your music was.....well, you know....out of tune but I guess for LA's most amazing singer , it really doesn't matter that you only spent a few hours on the production. I checked out the LAMA site too.....it's weird but you're not on the list of nominees.. Must be an error on their part cuz, dude, I'm pretty sure you're rocking your own lil world anyway. Thanks for posting!

sounds to me like Liam might have given a listen.Hey, Robert, I realize we are collectively ripping on you, but you should try to understand that being so new to the boards, that was a fairly arrogant way to introduce yourself. Not saying you ARE arrogant, just that your approach was very harsh. These boards are about mutual support and sharing and learning and building relationships. And posting your views is also a good thing. But instantly telling (insisting to) so many long-time TAXI members that TAXI is missing the point by not bowing at your feet (and recognizing the world's greatest songs ... yours ... immediately) is, quite frankly, a ludicrous approach to winning friends and influencing people.Take a breath, realize that we are poking fun because we've all been there at some point, and while it's very important to take our music and the biz we're all hoping to break into seriously, it's even MORE important NOT to take ourselves/yourself so seriously.Don't swear to us you're the new Beatles. No one will believe it. the number of awards won by members of this forum could stretch from here to wherever you are and back. And if you ARE the next Beatles, you'd have no reason to shove it up our noses.Stick around the boards for a little longer and you'll know what I'm talking about.Ted

I'd hope we get back to the original topic after that little commercial from Robert Tempting as it is to respond to Robert in this thread... I'd say his music speaks pretty obviously...you be the judge. But this has been a good thread so far, hope we don't lose it!

But this has been a good thread so far, hope we don't lose it!Good post, Glenn.Someone earlier in the thread referred to the fact that listing analysis is, obviously, critical. And that they had leanred a lot about it at the Rally. Many of the songs at the Panels that were pulled out for critique were clearly not in the genre that they had been submitted to.It's tempting to think that this is because some folk haven't perfected genre-analysis yet. But, truth be told, many folk were just putting their CDs in every box to increase their chances of selection. I found this very frustrating.I wonder if next year if a song is pulled from the hat and is clearly not in the genre, then no critique should be done. Sorry, clumsy phrasing but you get the drift.Liam

I second that motion. Certainly, we got to hear repeated (did I say repeated??) examples of misplaced genre, but enough was enough. Honestly, some of the songs were so misplaced, I think we were all starting to wonder if some of these folks didn't just put in a few extra CD's in all the bins, just to get their music heard. And apparently it worked. Maybe they should starting charging the $5 submission fee for each live panel submission...LOL. Kidding, of course. But I'll bet that would make them think twice about putting their country song in the pop bin! Raags
