Mentor Lunch Tickets?

Post by remmet » Fri Sep 04, 2009 7:51 am

I was looking at the schedule-in-progress and was curious about this mention of pre-purchasing tickets to attend mentor lunches:Mentor Lunch #1 – Concourse Ballroom (Mezzanine Level / 2nd Floor). You must already have pre-purchased your tickets to attend.Does anyone know what the process is for pre-purchasing tickets?Richard

hey Richard,When it gets a little closer to the actual Rally date, TAXI will send out an email with more instructions on how to get the Mentor Lunch tickets. Last year, it was towards the last half of October when they announced how to get the tickets.HTH,- Big Blue

Each table consists of one Mentor and about 10 TAXI members. They rotate the mentors about every 30 minutes so you'll have a chance to meet about 5 different mentors during your lunch. You can ask them as many questions as you'd like. Some of them will accept CD's from you, some of them will not. Just ask them and they'll tell you right away whether or not they'll take material from you.Since the mentors are so varied in their areas of expertise, it's likely that there will be at least one mentor that will, quite bluntly, be of no interest to you. In addition to the mentors, you also get a chance to have lunch with some fellow TAXI members and possibly make a new friend or two.I went to both lunches last year and was able to give my demo cd to a lady at one of the lunches. A few months later I heard back from her. She added me to her list of composers that she emails on a regular basis. A few months after that, one of the leads she sent me ended up with me getting a deal out of it. And that deal lead to my first placements on TV, a couple of tracks on MTV's Parental Control. So it was definitely worth it to me. But let me add a disclaimer to this, just like with those fancy weight loss plans they advertise on tv, individual results may vary. As I've been learning, there are way too many factors involved in this business to say that there's one big magic easy button to press to find success. I've found that it's really more a series of small sequential steps, that eventually start connecting you to the right people in the right places. Obviously, it starts with your music and your abilities. That's a given. But there's so much more than that as well.Sorry... didn't mean to get so long winded here! I guess I've got a lot stored up inside as I haven't really had a chance to post online over the last several weeks, mostly due to some deals I've signed as a result of going to the Rally Cant' wait to get back there this year!Hope I answered your questions mfowler.- Big Blue

I think Big Blue covered it really well including the "individual results may vary". Most mentors I met took CDs. However, don't be disappointed if you never hear from anyone, it's normal for this business and think about how many CDs they get. Consider it a bonus (like what happened for BB) if you get contacted. If you've never gone to one of these before, I recommend at least one. You gotta eat anyway so you get a good meal and the session for the price.Don't attend because you see it as an opp to hand out CDs. Go because you want to ask questions and learn. Casey
