Country/Pop Crossover forward!

Post by ckbarlow » Sat May 17, 2008 3:39 am

S080422COYee haw!! Got forwarded on this one:COUNTRY/POP CROSSOVER SONGS are sought after by an Independent Nashville Publisher, for pitching to prominent female and male artists. Songs with amazingly strong story lines, imagery and overall excellence in craft are what's needed here. Melodic hooks that grab and catch the listener instantly, with commercial appeal that also presents something different/unique/special. These songs can be appropriate for both female and male artists, but the tone and attitude should be youthful and contemporary. No traditional "honky-tonk" songs, for this particular listing. Lyrics can have edge and "spunk", as long as the hooks are undeniably huge and appeal to a mainstream audience. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received by April 22, 2008. TAXI #S080422COWhat's weird for me now is that I revised the song last weekend... changed a couple of words and (I think) strengthened the bridge... and then submitted it for some other stuff. So now I'm wondering if I should revert back to the original!Anyway, here it is -- and if anyone has a comment re: the first line of the chorus, let me know -- it got forwarded as "If I'm a road, you're my sign" but in the revision is "If I'm the sun, you're my shine" in an attempt to make the metaphor as quick as possible to grasp. You Get Me-- very happy CKPS - I wanted to pass on this encouraging note, too: The TAXI screener said "This simple vocal and acoustic demo shows you don't need a big, fancy demo with a full band to sell a catchy song. I can hear how this could come up sounding really mainstream and commercial."

great song here and congrats. by the way, I think either lyric sun with shine, road with sign would work. And proof that an acoustic guitar and vocals suffice. I can hear this with full production with little need for imagination needed on my part to "get it".best of luck.

Ted, or shall I say, Your Badness, you know very well how I come up with my lyrics: I write about my S.O., who is my amazing and loving (and ever-so patient) inspiration. One of the funniest and kindest people I've ever known. I'm lucky, lucky, lucky.Honestly the guitar track has some tempo-change artifacts (I lowered the bpm by a couple to improve the groove in this new version and didn't take time to re-record, shame on me) and as for the vocal, well, I'll never sound like I'd like to... but if I can get the idea across, cool. Thanks as always for your support, my friend.

This sounds awesome. It's sparse enough so the imagination gets going 'filling in the blanks' but I also think it stands on it's on as is. Very cool, congrats!
