What a great song you've got here Dale!My "unforwarded for country" opinion is do not stop working on this song until you (and everyone you share it with) considers it as perfect as possible. The concept and song are really strong. Here's my thoughts as I listen (three times now):"I never figured in the odds of losing you" - seems just a bit awkward to sing, can you shorten it a bit?Something like "What are the odds of losing you?"...I dunno...I see you change it later on, and it flows a bit better.Your line "ODDS ARE the full house we once had, we’ll never get back" finishes like it's also her fault a bit...what if you said "I'll never get back", to keep the blame on him? Just my interpretation on making it stronger. Can you sing "two to one" a bit smoother? That hook should be the easiest thing in the universe to sing when you're done with it. I don't have a suggestion here...except make it easy for me to sing it. You'll also be better off if you title the song with the most memorable phrase...I know you've set up "ODDS ARE" as your title, but it's not as strong a hook as "Two to one" in my opinion."Those sixes should’ve given me a clue" could sing smoother too...perhaps "Those sixes should've been my first clue" or "the first clue".And finally, "Bet I’d still have it all if I could keep the cards down" could be shorter and easier too..."I'd still have it all if I put the cards down" or something...I hope I don't seem too pushy here...it's only my $0.02 and I offer it up for you to use/ignore as you see fit. Hopefully some of the more experienced folks will speak to this song soon.If you get this song as perfect as you can, you won't need to bluff...you'll have a winning hand, I wager!Great song...I wish I'd have written it

Devin thanx! I agree with your suggestion for the "we'll" never get back part. I can easily change this to "I" as in the final chorus. the "we'll" was just to show the impact on her as well, hence reason for leaving. The end chorus is after she's left and it's just "I" now.BRIDGE:I chose the word "bet" for a reason: he's still "betting" even after he's lost everything.TITLE:It's been suggested before "Two To One". I'll add that as an alternate title at BMI for now.I have this made into Karaoke too, so I sang it my shows around Michigan and here in South Carolina. People LOVE it and actually request to sing it instead of me. (LOVE IT - best compliment ever)Thanks for the suggestions!Dale

I hafta say, I don't know a thing about cards, so some of the odds (five thousand? really?) are just a take-on-faith thing . . but MAN does this track shimmer. Great vibe. I agree on a couple of the awkward-scan notes from devin ("the deck of fifty-two" stuck out a bit for me), but they're really pretty small potatoes. good stuff.

I did some research back when and averaged the odds out so they would flow better.. ODDS ARE five thousand two hundred thirty four to one just couldn't flow...SYMANTICS would've killed this tune (LOL)It has been suggested that the tempo be brought up a few notches as well. This is all do-able.Dale

Thought in my mind a good video scenario would be Willie Nelson, Kenny Rogers, Hank JR., and (SINGER) all at the poker table. Mixed in would be scenes of her watching their stuff be taken and finally she leaves.I know, I'm DREAMING, but this would make for a GREAT video!Dale
