Cam, I think you're right about the Billy Swan song. (I just listened to it to refresh my memory) A more current example would be Chris Isaak or maybe Dwight Yokam. And you're right, it's not as much a chorus as it is a bridge. Also you don't even use the title in the bridge. So I guess that's another reason it's not a chorus. Well if you're going for more a rythmic sound like "I Can Help" maybe you should keep the same rythm and change the notes a little more. Either way, the lyrics are awesome. I'm a fan.Andy

FWIW cam--i only listened once and it was before my coffee--i actually heard lean the first time, and the change up to mean, and just figured you meant it that way, based on she couldn't cook AND she was a nasty lady,...but FWIW again, since you're breakin' some rules anyway, i'd say most of us IMMEDIATELY will think the Lean Cuisine thing when you keep it MEAN cuisine, hell, we aint all dummies!! love it,wh

Cam, great hook! One of these days I like to get a cd of your songs . . . but I like the original versions with you singing, so don't throw 'em away after you get those "pro" demos!

Kits, Warren, Bill and Willam - Thanks for your kind words. Warren, I think you're right that everyone will immediately think "Lean Cuisine" even if I say "mean", so mean it is.Bill, you are the Hookmeister, so coming from you it means a lot. Thank you. And Happy Birthday too!I guess you noticed I used an AABA song form that is not the current vogue in Nashville. It's part of my new f**k 'em attitude that a song will stand on its own merits whether it follows the rules (fads?) or not. Cam

I think you speak with wisdom Cam. A great song is a great song because it's a great song, structure is just an end note. And if anything, breaking the "rules" might be exactly what needs to happen to set your song apart. Publishers are always looking for something "fresh" and maybe that's exactly what's needed.Andy
