Re: Superstar (Rock)..... back again ;-)
Geo,I like the repeating guitar riffs. You should have posted the lyric, cuz I'm dying over that "underwear...va-j-j" line and want to read it!I think the snare could be brighter. At 2:33 when you have the 3 vocals in harmony/unison, it's be cool to raise the level of the high vocal--would give more energy I think.A la's...hmmm...Lou Reed?Good stuff.Vince

Re: Superstar (Rock)..... back again ;-)
HiCould you post the latest lyrics? This has come a long way since it began- I remember! Pretty cool stuff... I like it! Nice harmonies! My thoughts have to do with what would make it the most marketable for film/TV which is really the only market for pure writers of rock. The song itself is really good and has tons of potential. I'd get it produced to sound like a fairly modern pop/punk band. A few that come to mind are Good Charlotte ("Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous"), LIT, Blink-182, Green Day, All American Rejects... Right now it's hard to "tag" for era and genre which makes it harder to place in film/TV. You might have to hire out to get that done, but it could be worth it. (Not that this isn't well performed, it's a style thing)...This may be from left field , but see if the term "superstar" is too dated for the above (not sure, but I suspect). If so, consider another hook line/word. I know that's tough since it's been "superstar" for so long. There might be some other expression for today's stars followed by the paparazzi, in the National Enquirer, etc.The song, musically, has a good punk feel to it. What I'm not sure about is the way the word "superstar" is sung with the long "superstaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar" phrasing. It might be going more retro-pop there.Very nice work... Please note that I'm not 100% sure on some of the above, but it's all food for thought. One mistake I've made in the past is creating songs that don't fall "neatly" into a category. Like it or not, those work best with libraries and hence placements. End-users come to libraries looking for songs that sound like X, Y, Z and database tags are used for searches. And, obviously, film/TV scenes take place in a particular time.HTH and please let me know if I can help in any way... Best of luck! Casey

I get kind of a Smash Mouth vibe from this, only not as aggressive.I think this could benefit from being a little faster...it would have more energy.Guitars sound somewhat dark...It feels a little loose in the chorus.I think its a combination of the vocals being a bit behind the beat and the drum fills seeming a tad out of place.

yes Geo--you have really really improved your production, and also as i remember (at least the last time i heard it...) you've change the chorus melody quite a bit--AND I LOVE IT!!i personally can hear most of the lyrics just fine BTW. i will agree that some of the drums to me actually sound a bit BEHIND the vocals,,,,not in front--but i'd probably trust RLD, he's a real musician...LOL.very nice tune- many friggin' MTV shows show buy this NOW...all the best, warrenps: oh, as this continues to stream again, i have to agree--can benefit from upping your very nice harmonies later on...also didn't say how much i dig the simple drum beat entry...xoxoo

Geo!Good track man.... lyrics are sweet! I think it's pretty solid, but I have a couple of quick notes for the production.Overall, IMO there needs to be a bit more balance in the frequencies... I agree with Vince in that the snare should be a little brighter... and the bass doesn't have as much snap as I think it needs for this song, so maybe compress it more or EQ to make it a bit edgier. Also, you might try try changing up one of the guitars (my pref is the one on the right) and give it some more presence.... This is a song that can use the energy of the upper freqs more all around, because the song is quirky and the vocal is pretty smooth tonally. I think all of the adjustments I mentioned would be pretty slight though.... I'm talking about incremental boosts in those areas. I like the effect of doubling the lead vocal, but there are some definite problems with unintentional phasing when they get too close to each other. Try panning one of them away from center to help stop that. And the lead may be a little on the hot side, but it's only slightly. And, just a personal preference.... I'd take out the drums in the intro... too much of a click track for me (and too loud). Rock on!

I'm gonna ditto RLD on the Smashmouth ala and also Vince on the brighter snare comment. Gee, you'd think I'd be able to have an original thought! The is cool Geo, & it keeps getting better!

Yea, I should have included Smashmouth as a good possible "a la" here...

IMO the "v-a-j-j" line alone warrants success! Just Brazilliant!
