First Piece of 2009!

Post by mazz » Sat Jan 03, 2009 10:09 pm

Here's the first piece I've composed for 2009. It's a little one minute ditty in G Mixolydian that's one of an ongoing experiment on combining electronic/modern sounds with orchestra. Since there's a listing that mentions Thomas Newman and he's one of my favorite composers (and influences), this one has a taste of TN's sound but hopefully sounds a little like Mazz too. Also, my goal was to create layered textures in the background parts, where some things are felt more than heard. There's a lot of details inside the textures, lots of doublings and things like strings playing alternating 8th notes. I love using mallet percussion, celesta, strings and woodwinds. You'll also hear Stylus grooves with filtering on them and some heavy drums from Evolve and a Stylus synth sound from Textural Rex (Nine Volt Audio).I wish it was longer but the second section I had just didn't work and I ran out of time. Enjoy and Happy New Year!!Mazzhttp://www.taximusic.com/stream/197542/River%20Road.mp3EDIT: Fixed the link, thanks Dean!

Hi Mazz,I tried to listen, but the link did not play for me. Then I took out one of the 'stream' words and it worked, like this:http://www.taximusic.com/stream/197542/River%20Road.mp3 I really like this piece, especially the first 35 seconds. There are some very nice and interesting 'water-like' sounds .. well placed in the mix. Progression is good.Dean

I really like this Mazz. I listen to your stuff & get mesmerized . . . I'm not smart enough to even understand what you're doing but I like it. BTW I think I was given mixolydian for a skin condition & it seemed to work fine

Mazz, this is awesome! Even though you've added techno elements to an orchestral piece it still has a very organic sound the same way Thomas Newman is able to do. It has a really fun and energetic groove to it. It sounds exactly what the listing is asking for.Best of luck with it. What a great way to begin 2009.Steve

Hi Mazz! Wow this is a wonderful piece of film music! It's very Mazzish indeed and formidably forwardable. I love the blend of orchestral and rhythmic elements. Great for the listing. Thanks for sharing the first of what I'm sure will be many in 2009 and I love the way you introduced it before I listened! I learn so much from you, thank you! Georgie
