Feedback please "Business of Misery"
Submitting "Business of Misery" for this listing. Any opinions? This one is aimed at the Paramore ala.www.taxi.com/wodinlord ThanksWodinlordNEW LISTING -- ALT ROCK/INDIE POP INSTRUMENTALS for Film/TV placements are wanted by the President of an L.A. Music Library/Publisher who has signed and placed many TAXI writers/songs. You can think in the range of Vampire Weekend, Muse, Placebo, Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand, Kasabian, Paramore, etc. in terms of approach and stylistic possibilities. These need to be instrumentals only, specifically for the purpose of placements in shows such as One Tree Hill, CSI, Las Vegas, Grey's Anatomy, Rob & Big, The Biggest Loser, etc. This Publisher will be looking for really compelling tracks that sound radio-ready and current/cutting edge. No vocals for this one, please. All tempos will be considered, but mid to up-tempo will be preferable. Performances/production must be excellent and recordings need to be Broadcast Quality (great home recordings should be fine). Please submit one to three tracks online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than January 19, 2009. TAXI # Y090119AR

Re: Alt Rock instrumental feedback please
Wod,First quick impression--good groove, played well...feel, time, etc. Guitars sound great; drums not to my taste, although they sound better in the "chorus". Interesting change of pace at 1:35--sort of a bridge, I guess? Seems to work pretty well. Not sure if you hit Alt Rock/Indie Pop--I'm terrible at judging that!Vince

Re: Feedback please "Business of Misery"
Hey, Wod.That's a nice, clean track. My concern is that it may not hit the ALT ROCK/INDIE POP target at the beginning. The beginning section sounds more punk-ish to my ears due to the syncopation and snare tone. But about 0:25 the regular driving section sounds more on target to me. But I'll give the standard disclaimer: I know what I think is ALT ROCK/INDIE POP, but I'm not sure what they mean by ALT ROCK/INDIE POP. I listened to Muse and Vampire Weekend on YouTube and they seemed to be more into steady beats with riffs layered on top.My guess would be that you'll have more luck starting with the driving sound of 0:25 and such, and not going into the punk-ish syncopated areas.$0.05 (you can give me $0.03 in change)

Snare sounds strange to me from the start. Cool rhythm track - but missing a melodic line IMO.Kitz

I'm not familiar with all of the alas so can't offer anything there, but the drums (especially the snare) sound a bit unrealistic to my ears, for certain in tone and maybe also in the execution. Other than that it's a pretty cool track (unless they're looking for something with a melodic "hook" as kitz mentioned).

Groovy little track. Agree with the snare sound comments. I'm not sure that the change at 1:35 fits in the track or not, it comes and goes so quickly but that's kind of the nature of film/tv music. The octave guitar there is cool. You might be able to get the gits a little bigger by changing the eq on one or both sides; sounds like one track that was doubled/panned hard and had some stereo imaging applied.cool piece thanks for posting iteRich

Re: Feedback please "Business of Misery"
hi wod--i absolutely agree with starting this at the :25 driving part, but i REALLY DIG the change up at 1:35--it is a very cool and different tune in itself--have you thought of a bigger piece of that pie? this is FAR from my genre (so is everything else...) but i also think the drums need work--but it has allot of potential. some of the cutting may actually be good for it, as my understanding is that some of these listings do want stuff they can "piece"thanks for the listen, all the best, warren

Re: Feedback please "Business of Misery"
Hey Wodinlord,Nice production here! Ha ha.. funny twisting of the Paramore song name. I'll echo some of the same comments regarding the snare sound. To me it's sound very fat, but for this track I want to hear less body maybe and more of a piccolo tone. The guitar sounds good and thick to me and everything sits well in the mix although I'd like to hear a few dB less snare perhaps IMO.Lastly I also wonder if a little melodic interest would sell it more. But I know that sometimes it can be a distraction on an inst like this. I noticed you have an impressive credit list there!Good luck!

Re: Feedback please "Business of Misery"
Cool tune, i could hear it in film, but honestly i could hear it much more easily in video games or like a snowboard video etc. Not sure if thats what your going for or not... Anyway, i thought the main driving section was great. I wanted to hear a frontal melody line during the progressive sections or some kind of "more dramatic" rising action. There seemed to be something missing in the 'verse' section as well. The production is good most areas i heard have been mentioned. I think the core of the song is strong and could fit for the listing, but im not familiar with what they're really looking for, so this is just opinion. I'll echo patrick, wow! What a credit list! Keep up the good work. Jamie
